Meet Jordyn Huffman of Ready, Set, Parent!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Huffman.

Hi Jordyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Jordyn, otherwise known as The Mama Educator on Instagram, and I am a birth and postpartum doula and childbirth educator who also offers breastfeeding support! I do all of those things through my own business called Ready, Set, Parent! I started my business about two years ago, shortly after having my son, but I have been in attendance and supported people through labor and birth for several years, simply because I enjoyed it. I never knew the TRUE, deep passion I had for birth until after I experienced it for myself, but I always knew it intrigued and excited me, and I’ve ALWAYS been a caregiver, empath and someone who loves to encourage others, which are all qualities of a great doula! My life story is a long one, but for the reader’s sake, I’ll give you guys a quick run over of how I got here!

I have had a lot of hard times in my life, which I fully believe built me into the person I am today. When I was almost 7 years old, my dad tragically died in a car accident, and my life was forever changed. My grandparents (my dad’s parents) took me in, raised me as their own and gave me a beautiful life. They truly modeled what good parents are and always made me feel loved and safe! I now raise my child with those same values! I have a younger brother who lived with my mom and I visited them often. When I was 17 years old, she became pregnant with my baby brother! I was there for the birth, it was the first one I ever witnessed in person, and I was astonished! I could not believe how her body grew and delivered a baby, fully by instinct. I instantly became fascinated!

Then, just two months before my baby brother’s 2nd birthday, he passed away. He had a tick bite that ended up leading to meningitis, and it was the most traumatic, difficult thing I have ever experienced. Not only because of losing my tiny baby brother, just a sweet little toddler, but also because of the intense sadness I felt holding my mom as she screamed and cried in agony for nights. At the time, I didn’t have my own child so I could not comprehend or imagine losing one, but I had never seen anyone so grief stricken and losing my brother left a mark on me forever,

After that, I struggled off and on for years dealing with grief and not knowing how to cope with it. Slowly, over time, I found happiness again and learned to process and feel my emotions and use my struggles to better myself and learn from. I met my husband in 2015 and we spent two years just as friends until we fell in love in 2017. He taught me how to love myself and know that I am valued and important.

We had our son, Jax, in January 2020 and our worlds were forever changed! During my pregnancy, we started out like most people… scared! But, I thought back on the birth of my brother, and the few other births I had assisted with, and I told myself I WILL have a positive, empowered birth. And I did! But I know that only happened because of the work I put in preparing for it. I KNEW the importance of educating myself, planning and preparing. I had so many friends experiencing traumatic births that left an impact on them that affected them in their daily lives, I was determined to not have that outcome. It sparked a fire in me, not only for my own birth, but also because I wanted to help others not have bad experiences either!

I found my true passion during that pregnancy, and especially after I had the beautiful birth I wanted. Shortly after my birth, I got trained in childbirth education, breastfeeding support and doula care and started my business! I can happily say I LOVE what I do! I am one the lucky ones who truly found my passion and turned it into a career that I love and can live on!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think everything in life has its challenges and obstacles, but if you truly find something you’re deeply passionate about and enjoying doing, it makes the road much smoother! Some struggles I’ve had in first starting my business have been just getting my name out there, growing my online presence, finding local clients and really just getting the ball rolling! Once you get your first couple clients, you start gaining traction, you figure out your “flow.” it becomes easier and it’s just up from there!

As you know, we’re big fans of Ready, Set, Parent!. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Ready, Set, Parent is a female owned and operated doula services business. I provide in person birth and postpartum doula services, online childbirth and parenting prep courses and both virtual and in person breastfeeding support! A birth doula, in case you’re wondering, is a professionally trained and experienced provider of educational and informational support during pregnancy and physical, emotional and mental support during your entire birth. A doula advocates for your wishes and supports YOUR goals!

I specialize in helping those who really want unmedicated hospital births, but I help every type of person in every type of birth! Natural unmedicated, natural medicated, induction, c- section, VBAC, twin/multiples, etc. Whether you want a home, hospital, or birth center birth, I’m your girl!

I think what sets me apart from most doulas is that I’m a childbirth educator & offer breastfeeding support also! Most doulas will tell their clients to make sure they take a birth prep class and a breastfeeding class, but my services include ALL of that! You truly get the full package with me, and that’s why I named my business “Ready, Set, Parent!” I believe it’s so important to prepare new parents, especially first timers, for EVERYTHING, not just birth. Imagine knowing everything about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding and newborn care before going into labor! Imagine how confident you would feel and how much fear and stress that would erase! THAT is what I have to offer and what I am so passionate about giving to my clients!

What does success mean to you?
To me, success has little to do with money. Obviously, we all would love to be financially “rich,” but to me, being successful means being truly fulfilled and happy in life. Success looks different to everyone. To me, it can include money, but it’s not JUST about money. I feel successful currently in my life, but I still have goals I want to achieve and things I want to do to have more success. I imagine complete success as: true inner happiness, no matter what objects you have.
