Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Figueroa.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I always had in mind to work on my own business but as much as I brainstormed, I could never point at something I can enjoy doing. Until I started to work part-time with a local party rental. Never in my wildest dream, I would have imagined me doing this line of work but once I started doing it, I loved it. Seeing how much kids get excited when they see the train is remarkable. Kids of all ages enjoy it. The little ones younger than two get excited just by seeing the train they know that is something fun. After a few months of doing this, I knew this was it, this is was the type of business I wanted to start building my self.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road, specially at the beginning but a good friend of mine always says, “If it was easy, everyone would be doing it”.
We had the train built in Georgia and the 33ft trailer here local. We had a lot of setbacks with the customized trailer and almost missed our deadline to pick up the train. We had a couple of events already booked before we even had the train, so we were on a timer. We were scheduled to pick up the train the week before our 1st event. We drove to Georgia and picked up the train and drove right back. The train was running smooth up until two days prior to our 1st event, it would turn off and would not turn back on after 30 minutes of use.
I took it to a couple of local shops and no one could figure out what was wrong and it was not normal since the engine was new. A lot of back and forth with the gentleman that built it and tried a lot of different things to try to get it working. A day before the 1st event the gentleman in Georgia called me and said he had a new engine and was willing to swap them out so I can be up and running, but I would have to drive to Georgia again. I left right after he called me and made the 12-hour drive and got the engine swapped and drove right back to Houston. I made it back 2 hours prior to the event and we were able to get the events done.
It was really difficult, specially the 1st couple of months. But I have my wife, mother and family that back me up and keeps me going. Everything has been running smooth since then and has been a very successful first year.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with JDk Trackless Train – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Our trackless train is unique and one of a kind. Sits 18-20 kids. Adults can also ride, the tires are rated for highway use and the weight capacity is extremely high. We do a nothing but adults ride on most of our events. It can sit 12-16 adults. Has a high-quality stereo system with two heavy-duty waterproof speakers in each of the wagons, so a total of 8. For night events, it turns into a party train and lights up. Colorful LED lights under all of the wagons and also inside of the closed wagons. So it is not just a boring ride for kids only, is fun for everyone.
We take pride on providing the best customer service and putting our selves in our customer’s shoes. We are parents too and have hired party rental companies before and we know what exactly are the expectations of our customers.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Future plans are obviously to grow. We are planning to add a second train very soon to meet the demand and to cover every type of party possible. We are also thinking of expanding in other ways maybe different types of unique party rentals not just trains but for this is more future wise. Right now, our main focus is getting our name and customer service out there, let our train be recognized.
