Meet Josbellys Gil de Gonzalez of Status Pro Events in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josbellys Gil de Gonzalez.

Josbellys, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As the daughter of a woman who is very passionate about crafts and decoration, I got accustomed to noticing the impact that small details often made. I took that with me as I started my career, which actually began very far from my childhood home. My husband, who then worked in the oil industry, was required to migrate frequently. With every move, I found myself engaging in new experiences and learning more about different cultures, trends, and styles.

In 2008, we moved to Luanda, Africa. This was a place that really developed my creative ability, it was also the place where my career began. I started with little things: birthday parties for my friend’s kids and small social events. Finding the right materials to complete those projects was difficult due to the high cost of living and the scarcity of resources, so naturally, I had to make my own material from scratch. My time in Luanda is forever written in my memory and heart, it gifted me the blessing of seeing the effects of my work and how happy it made other people. This inspired me to further my passion as we moved to the United States of America.

In the beginning, I only offered services to my family and friends; those were the first projects I started documenting and posting on my social media platforms. Soon enough, I began to receive requests from new clients. As my clientele expanded, my desire to deliver more professional work increased. Thus, I pursued a Wedding Planner certification from Lonestar College in North Harris. I did this to provide my clients with more organized and logistically accurate projects, expand my network of helpers and resources, and increase my knowledge of team management and recruitment. Slowly but surely, I began building a sturdy system of organization and management that allowed me to attract a wave of loyal customers and workers.

My job allows me to learn something new every day — every project feels like a step forward, and everyday feels like a new, more fruitful beginning.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to my career, though not smooth, can always be characterized by growth. Every struggle I’ve had has only fed my knowledge and enriched my experience. A great example of that is my struggle with the English language. I began studying the language when my family moved to Bournemouth, England. There, I attended an English school known as Anglo-Continental. Not only was the school incredibly diverse, living in England allowed me to find and develop my “vintage” style. My struggles learning the language were greatly overshadowed by my experience.

Moving to the United States offered a similar challenge, one that often limited me to only dealing with my Spanish speaking clients. Time, effort, and courage have allowed me to break that bubble and expand my clientele. I found my voice through a newfound sense of purpose, experience, and confidence. Through this, I learned to embrace challenges and stay strong in the face of adversity.
