Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Francisco Villarreal.
Jose Francisco, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m the 5th child of eight kids growing up in the SouthEast of Houston, Tx in the neighborhood of Southway Manor, it was quite very dangerous there growing up, seen things some kids shouldn’t see at the age of five. I was always around older people, grew up and did a lot and learned a lot for a child that should be learning school books but instead, I was seeing people get shot at, people selling & doing drugs, but always knew that was not my thing cause the folks I was around kept me on the right path of positive mindset. So, my family & friends told me I’ll be someone one day, lol! I didn’t buy into that, to later on, when my mother was convicted & put into Texas Prison system which is very awful for many whose loved ones are doing time. It hurt at the time knowing my mother was in jail, but that’s when I’ve got into the street at a young age and going to school seeing kids my age rapping at the lunch tables, beating and making beats with just a pencil, that attracted me to do a lil rap and prepared myself for the next day to rap in front of all my school classmates and when I did, I draw a lot of people and they didn’t know I can rap and from there on, I know this is what I wanted to do. When the years passed by and I was getting older in high school in Pasadena High. I was rapping no more, I was caught up selling drugs to my friends & family members I didn’t care at the time, all I cared about was saving money and spending it on fun like going out doing what kids like to do but later a friend of mines from my neighborhood was murdered, he was the one who always told me to stick with rapping, his name “Rick Neno,” he used to tell me the streets wasn’t my thing, to stop dealing the street life cause I end up like a lot of the guys we knew that were in jail, he told me that and four months later, he was killed with his wife. That put me in depression for a while and it killed me knowing I won’t ever see him again, I could hear his voice in my head all the time, “stick with rapping“ you can do it, you have it, don’t do what everybody is doing, don’t be a follower to be a leader. And around my senior year, I decided to take my rapping seriously. After graduation, I had four kids Jade, Jason, Julissa & Brianna and by then, I had released my latest First Album titled “Bugg’z Lyfe” on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, etc. go look for that and now, it’s 2019, plans on dropping my Second Album called “Bugg’d Out.” At this point in my life, I have more to say to get off my chest. I’m more open-minded and I see clearly now than ever before. I’m 31 years old and about to set to get married soon with my fiancé, Yarisel she’s my soulmate, she keeps me on track of what I have to do & she makes sure I get things done the right way. I have big plans y’all, just have to set back and watch me, never know what I have coming next.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it haven’t, growing up, I always loved making people laugh for no reason like if I have seen someone sad, I’ll try help their day better but other than that, I didn’t know how to read or write. I got to the 9th grade, lol! It’s funny to me cause my kids reads very well and they started to read at 4-5 and me, at the age of 15, I started to read and write.
Please tell us about My Way Of Lyfe Records.
Well, I just started my recorded Lable “My Way Of Lyfe Rec” two years ago, it’s just me on the label, so I’m a one-man team for right now. I’m working right now with a few artists. I’m proud to work with like Infrared Fred of T.G. Productions, GMan of CMR, Harkore, BlueBoi, Fo Rilo, etc., so be on the lookout coming out on my label.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t start over cause where I am at right now, I’m happy how things turned out to be… P.S. Live each day like it’s your last, cause we never know when it’s gonna be your last.
