Meet Jose Sanabria of J.S. Tree Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Sanabria.

Jose Sanabria

Hi Jose, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Who is J.S Tree Service? Here is how J.S Tree Service was born and how it all started. My name is Jose Sanabria. I am of Honduran Origin, born in a small town in Honduras. My father was a Cattle Rancher, just like my grandfather. At the age of 6 years old my parents decided that there wasn’t anything for us in Honduras, so we came to the United States.

My parents found a job, started working, and leased an apartment for us. At first, it was easy but as time passed, I was realizing that my parents were struggling but they never showed it. As I was getting older, I was able to find a job at Home Depot and help them out. It was a good experience, easy money maybe because it was my first job, but it wasn’t enough, so I looked for another job which was at Sam’s Club I still said to myself this is still not enough.

That’s when I decided to do something new and went with being a car salesperson, moving from city to city doing sales at car shows while leaving my family behind when we are always together but in my heart, I said to myself I have to sacrifice for my family just like they have done for my siblings and I. Every time I would come back to town from an event my father would always tell me ” You know with the several years of experience I have in tree service and the semi-experience you have in sales we should start our own tree service business”, but I didn’t want to do that. A couple of months passed, and I was getting tired of traveling so much that I just decided to tell my father “Yes let’s do it “.

We were trying to come up with names but no go until my sister Fabiola said, “Why don’t we honor our grandfather Jesus Sanabria,” who is my grandfather from my father’s side. Who is also a very hardworking and humble man. That’s when J.S. Tree Service was born.

My dad and I started driving around in the Houston area looking for work, passing flyers at local places and neighborhoods. People started contacting us. We were so excited. We were getting calls left to right at that time, we didn’t have a truck to move around in, and that’s when my mother suggested we use her Jeep to start. We decided to rent a trailer so we can have a place to haul off the debris.

On one of the jobs. An accident occurred. My dad misstepped and fell off the ladder and broke his ankle. We still had a couple of more clients to go to, but I couldn’t do it alone so that’s when I said to myself “We needed help“ so we started hiring because I knew that my dad’s recovery would be a long one.

A couple of months later, my sister and I went to go buy our first company truck, which was a Dodge Ram. We went to my parent’s house late at night just so they could see what we had accomplished. I was so happy, and my dad was so proud.

With all the hard work, I decided to stop renting a trailer which was “cheaper” and invest in a trailer that was my own. Then little by little, J.S Tree Service kept growing, and we were getting more equipment.

My dad fully recovered and came back to work this time with my mother. They were both in charge of the projects. My sister and I opened an office in the Katy area and contacted a couple of friends of mine that were my mentors in the sales business when I had first started.

Now, they are the top sales reps for J.S. As our crew grew, so did our services, and now we do everything from Tree trimming to drainage to hardscaping. We design and build anyone’s outdoor dream, and that’s who J.S Tree Service is and started.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road; as the business grew, so did the responsibilities. The easiest part was starting the business because I had nothing to lose. One of the struggles I encountered was finding trustworthy and hardworking employees.

As you know, we’re big fans of J.S. Tree Service. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
My work role at J.S Tree Service is a Project Manager. As a project manager, I go to the job sights to see how everything is going or if there’s any issues that needs to be resolve for that specific job. I’m also in charge of complaints, misunderstandings, and miscommunications from any of our current and future clients.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up in Houston and attending school, I learned a second language which is English. I was also into sports and was very athletic; I did every sport I could get my hands on. I like being a leader and pushing people to be the best version of themselves.
