Meet Joselin Peña of Jartistryyy in North East

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joselin Peña.

Joselin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started when I was around nine years old. I remember opening a present on Christmas and it was a huge box of a Bratz makeup collection. I forgot who got me that gift but thanks to them I discovered how much I loved Makeup! It’s so funny to me because I was such a tomboy when I was little! But once I started using makeup, I became so in love with it. I didn’t start wearing actual brand makeup until I entered high school. Girls would always compliment my makeup and they would sometimes ask me to glam them up during class, haha. It was such a good feeling making someone feel pretty. Later on in 2014, as a junior, I started having my first clients. It was for prom season. I was sooo nervous! But we all start somewhere! I’ve been in the beauty industry for five years now, and I’ve loved every moment of it. The ups and down… all of it! It’s the one thing I could never give up on.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. I don’t think it ever is. The road to success will always be difficult; you just have to remember why you started. There were times where I wouldn’t have clients at all, and it was so overwhelming. I would see other MUA’s taking off and they had started after me. Things like that made it hard for me to feel secure in my work, in myself. But I have support from so many people, and to me that’s what matters the most during times like those. I’m thankful for it all.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jartistryyy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My style is more of what you would call, “Instagram Makeup”. I love editorial looks too, but I just prefer the full, glam way more! I would say my speciality is eyes. I have the art in my hands, literally. I grew up on art. That influenced my creativity in color, the ability to blend and make a look come together. I love doing base makeup too, don’t get me wrong. But it’s just something about glitter on the eyes, a sharp liner, and full lashes that I just love. What I’m mostly proud of is the reaction I get from people when they see their finished look. When I see them smiling and they tell me how much they love it.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have several plans. I can’t wait to be able to start them. I eventually want to get certified to become a lash tech. That is my first goal. Later on, I want to be able to offer microblading services as well. And last but not least, create my own brand of lashes! That would be so awesome to accomplish. College is in my plans as well. It actually has nothing to do with the makeup industry, but I also plan on majoring in Social Sciences as a Psychologist. All in due time by the grace of God!
