Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseline Cerritos.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in El Salvador and raised in Houston. My parents and I immigrated from El Salvador in 1989. I started my own business in 2017. I have always been in the beauty industry, but never made it a full-time job or a business. It was more of a hobby for me. I started doing makeup back in 2012 as a side job on the weekends. I loved doing makeup on others but it wasn’t my passion. I worked in the medical field for nine years. I loved the medical field and thought that I wanted to be a nurse one day. That all changed when I discovered Eyelash Extensions. My cousin Diana and I decided to give them a try one day and made an appointment at a salon near my home. I had always been extra and wore Eyelash strips. I wore those things for seven years straight. I Wouldn’t step foot outside my house without them. So the day I had Eyelash extensions put on. I was in love. I started to do some research and discovered that there weren’t many lash artist in Houston at that time. I decided to take a course. I became certified and started doing lashes out of my dining room with a Massage table and little lamp from Ikea.
I would work my M.A. job from 8-5pm then came home and worked from 6-10pm doing lashes. I did that for over a year. I had no idea that a year and half later, I would quit my job as a Medical Assistant and pursue my true passion in the Beauty Industry. My small business out of my dining room has grown and this May. Thanks to my parents (Oscar & Maribel), my siblings (Luis & Emily), my children (Gizelle & Logan), my Boyfriend Miguel and my immediate family for encouraging me and pushing me. I took a huge leap and opened my own suite. I was so scared to fail. But I pushed my self to be successful and I can say, “I did it”. I never thought that I would be a business owner. Eyelash extensions have changed my life completely. I love what I do. My business is my passion, it’s my other baby! I look forward to going to my own place that I call my business and work for hours. I use to dread going to work when I was in the medical field. But not anymore. I have learned to never give up. To believe in my self more and always follow your dreams.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest struggle when starting my business was trying juggle being a good mom to my two kids and still trying to grown my business. Being a single mother is hard. But I managed. I have a lot of help from my parents, my sister and my brother. They pick up my kids from school and watch them. So I can work up to 9/10pm at night. I am blessed to have such a supportive family. They have helped me make my goals a reality.
Please tell us about Bombshell Lash & Beauty Studio.
We are one of Houston premiere Eyelash extension salons. At Bombshell Lash and Beauty we focus on customizable eyelash extensions. We love to make all our clients feel beautiful and confident when they leave our salon. We also offer Private 1:1 training and group training for those seeking to learn a new trade. This industry continues to grow and we are here to help anyone who wants to start a new career in Eyelash Extensions. I am most proud of being able to bring confidence to my clients. Also the relationships I have made with them over these three years. Some of my girls have been with me since day one. When they come to my salon, It’s like therapeutic. They relax, maybe take a nap. Some of them just talk to me. I love how they continue to support me and my business. They are the reason I continue to grow. Thanks to there loyalty and all of there referrals, I continue to stay booked and busy.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t have changed any of these experiences and struggles. They only make me want to work harder to achieve my dreams. One thing I do wish I would of done is , discovered Eyelash extensions sooner.
