Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Engalla.
Josh, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was 16 years old, my older brother was diagnosed with schizophrenia. When I was 17 years old, I found out I was going to be a proud new owner of an actual human being. When I was 18 years old, I was t-boned in an intersection and ejected from the vehicle. I was broken. Physically, emotionally, financially. I had four spinal fusions, multiple reconstructive surgeries, severe depression, a crying baby, bills on bills on bills, and the light at the end of the tunnel? Nonexistent.
All this pain would eventually become my strengths.
I worked in various companies throughout all those years with different roles focused on advertising, marketing, and sales. In one of my more traditional advertising roles, I realized that a lot of my clients were asking for analytics on their advertising dollars. Questions like, “how is my ad doing” and “what’s the ROI” were questions where I had no real answers. So I got into digital marketing. I learned everything there was to know about advertising on Google, got certified, and reached out to my book of business and offered to start building campaigns for free.
I was hooked. I loved everything about it. I did that for about a year and realized there’s a lot more to digital marketing than just Google Adwords. I remember thinking, if I really want to grow a business that creates real value the companies I work with, I need to know more.
So I started working for other digital marketing agencies. I learned everything there was to know about SEO, web design, email marketing, social media advertising, influencer marketing, etc. I eventually saved up enough to bet it all on my vision for a new marketing agency.
Regex SEO is alive and thriving. We office in the Galleria and have 14 people on our team and growing.
A year after starting Regex SEO, I started the Engalla Hope Foundation. This foundation is focused on providing housing and treatment scholarships for individuals and families who are suffering from mental illnesses like schizophrenia.
There’s a lot more to this story, but I hope this gives you enough insight into whether or not I’d be a good interviewee. Hopefully so, I’m really looking forward to the opportunity.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely been a struggle. I’ve grown to love that struggle because I know it’s going to fuel so much growth.

Engalla Hope Foundation has partnered with some of the best mental health facilities in the world. Our family has struggled with schizophrenia for over ten years now and we know how tough it is.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When you’re working 60 hours a week, it’s hard to stop and reflect. It all happens so quickly and you’re so focused on growing the business and improving. I remember finishing a task and just looking over my computer screens and seeing my team really moving things along. It was a very surreal emotional moment. I actually had to leave the office for a minute. I went outside of our office building and texted my parents. They helped me get through my darkest years and I owe it all to them.
