Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Buzzell.
Joshua, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Regal Pools started in 2008. I was working for another pool company with my best friend and business partner Edwin Escobar. We were always making the extra effort to get ahead and we’re never really noticed or recognized. We also worked really well together, and I could always see potential in our futures. I always felt that we could do better than everyone else was doing. Better quality, better customer service, better experience. So I left the company and started Regal Pools. I already had 5 or so years’ experience in the construction and service world. Edwin stayed with that company but joined Regal the next year.
Edwin ran the service side of Regal while I focused more on the construction side. Soon enough with our designs, and quality we were able to grow quickly into a recognized builder in the greater Houston area. Our old friend and mutual friend in the business Narcisco Godino stepped in to run the service side of things in about our 4th or 5th year and Edwin went to run / operate the field fulltime once Narc came in. Joe Byrd is head of sales and was a landscaper prior to joining the Regal Team about 4 years ago.
Our staff is filled with professionals that are truly educated on our industry. I feel it’s my job to know EVERYTIHNG about a pool but it is filtered to our staff 10 fold. They can’t keep me from shutting up at times :).
Our hunger for knowledge and motivation to do well for the next client and surpass expectations is what drives us. It’s hard to impress our clients. They’re successful, and well accomplished most times. But more often than not we do and that’s the best!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been fairly smooth. We always have struggles, that’s our biggest job. To make the struggles fewer and fewer, and I think we do well at that. We always want to improve to streamline the process. Making the pool building process perfectly smooth and seamless is difficult but you can’t tell your clients that. They expect a REGAL pool. That’s what they’re going to get. No matter what!
Regal Pools – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I run the day to day operations from the office most days. 2 days a week I will be in the field monitoring jobs. We specialize in one off custom pools. So I make sure our sales/ design team is doing just that. Keeping it fresh, taking care of any warranty issues, or problems that arise. Not long ago I was designing and managing EVERY pool we did. Now I have an amazing team that helps me capture my vision. I’m big into education and learning about all new products that hit the market. Keeping up on trends. ETC.
I’m most proud of our team. From design to completion we have some of the best guys / girls I could ask for. No one is going to ever been as driven as I have come to be but my staff backs me up and usually is there to have me chill out at times when I need to. A starting pitcher in the MLB is no good without the other 8 players around him, and that goes the same for Regal Pools.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being introduced into the Master Pools Guild. Only 100 of the top builders in the world are invited to be a member and I’m pretty certain we are the youngest members of the well-respected group.
