Meet Joyce Norton-Wilkins of J. Wilkins Photography in Stafford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyce Norton-Wilkins.

Joyce, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started off as having the greatest title in the world! MOMMIE! I am a mother of three, and I loved taking photos of them. My passion for photography grew and grew. All of my work was free because hey it was just a hobby right! Lol. Free later became “Here take it this, your work is amazing”! I couldn’t believe it… I was getting paid for something that I loved doing!

My Pastor (Rondy Long) and husband (Brian Wilkins) saw my passion and gave me the courage to turn my hobby into a business. Being a photographer means to be able to capture special moments in someone’s life. A moment forever burned in time. I am so blessed to be able to have a job that is also my passion!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think every business has its own set of challenges. But as for me, juggling my time would be top on my list. Starting a small business is not easy. But if you are doing something you love, you will never work a day in your life. Having a great mentor will help tremendously. Whatever it is… work hard for it, never give up.

J. Wilkins Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
J.Wilkins Photography specializes in creating timeless photos. The way a baby giggles at his mom or the way a man looks into the eyes of his wife. This is what I want to freeze in time. I want to grow with you as your family grows.

When it comes down to it, I just love the personal connection photography gives to not only me but those in the pictures as well. So many new relationships, conversations, and special moments have been shared solely because of photography in my life.

What were you like growing up?
I am number 4 out of 5 from the Norton tribe! Lol, I am the only girl which means I got my way a lot of the times lol. I loved being creative and solving problems. I knew at a young age my career would be in the arts but didn’t know what avenue God had for me.
