Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Otero.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started off as a carpet installer for my father’s carpet company. And eventually learned multiple trades by being on job sites. I purchased my 1st house by the age of 21 and did a full renovation and sold the property where I tripled my money. With the proceeds, I was able to purchase my 2nd investment home and also opened up a small flooring showroom of my own to sell flooring materials. Then in 2008 after hurricane Ike. A couple of established general contractors were overwhelmed with work they took me under their wing and enhanced my knowledge in rehabbing and remodeling homes. I then began to land residential and commercial contracts for bigger scale jobs which worked hand in hand with my store front. I became a one stop shop where clients were able to purchase flooring material as well as hire several trades inside of our office. Which works great for investors for people with limited time. Which we currently are still doing today. I’ve also have been able to invest in rental properties. Which have worked great alongside my other business. I don’t believe that I would be fulfilling any of my dreams or goals without my faith in Jesus Christ which has always given me wisdom and great insight in how to grow my business and my life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For the most part, it was a pretty smooth transition due to all the resources I’ve created through networking throughout the years and my upbringing which helped. Some struggles I did have were making the finances work for the 1st home investment and learning to handle multiple trades. But throughout hard work and persistence, I’ve been growing every year.
Please tell us about Houston Discount Floors and Remodel.
Our company specializes in flooring such as wood floors, tile, carpet, and recently added epoxy and acetone concrete stain. We are known for our quick responses and able to keep our pricing competitive throughout the years. We also take pride in our work with great customer service. Which is important since we do minimum marketing our clients are great at referring us which keeps us at a steady pace throughout the years.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have really sat down and planned out and did more research in owning a store front and learned the commitment it takes to having a store of my own and leading people and what it takes to lead a small company to success.

Juan has also contributed thousands of dollars out of his own pocket to purchase and improve property for the purpose of building tiny homes for the homeless. I know this because I am one of the co-founders or Project Rehome and his generosity has helped us tremendously.
