Meet Julius Greenhouse of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julius Greenhouse.

Hi Julius, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my photography journey with a desire to create something and share the way I see things through portraits. I knew I wanted to create something that I would see everywhere and would last forever. A quote that resonated with me — “No one sees what you see, even if they see it too” — deepened my commitment to the craft. As a child at my grandparents’ house, I was drawn to magazines like ESPN, JET, Ebony, GQ, and SLAM, studying every detail of the images: color, composition, fashion, and emotion.

My approach to photography mirrors the mindset of a basketball player: shooters shoot. I kept pushing forward, always seeking the next opportunity. I didn’t let fear hold me back, and I practiced relentlessly, carrying my camera everywhere to capture moments along the way. In the words of Larry June ” Keep Going!”

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every artist struggles. Every hooper has a bad game. Growth comes from mistakes being made. The key is “ Keep Going.” I love to self-reflect & ask myself how I could have done this better. Should I have increased the iso, changed the focal length, added some depth. I love to struggle because I know me. I’m going to come out better with new knowledge.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Texas teacher by day, and photographer at heart. I specialize in family portraits, Wildlife, and sports photographs. I love to capture emotions in every picture I photograph. I am most proud of the emotions expressed once my clients receive their portraits. Something as small as changing their profile picture to something we completed together warms my heart. What sets me apart from others is during my sessions I like to create a vibe. I bring my speaker to all my shoots and provide an ambience and stress-free environment powered by good tunes. I also am a big fan of vibrant colors. I love for my colors to be vivid and rich which helps tell my story.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite apps are probably Lightroom and Pinterest. Once I mastered Lightroom, off camera flash, and all it’s Pro Tools, I felt next level. Some of my favorite people from YouTube University are Irene Rudnyk (she does really good natural light shots) , Manny Ortiz, and Eli Infante taught me Off Camera Flash while I was sitting on my couch. I love to watch wildlife documentaries and always am inspired by all the shots these photographers capture of all these exotic creatures in their natural habitats.
