Today we’d like to introduce you to Juni Shrestha.
Hi Juni, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My professional journey is grounded in a passion for understanding people and supporting their well-being. Although I initially considered law enforcement, I realized my greatest impact would come through mental health work. Living and working across multiple continents has given me the opportunity to support individuals from diverse backgrounds. I have experience as a therapist, intern at a Juvenile Justice Center, teaching in Dubai and Katy ISD, working with the Houston Galveston Institute, and volunteering with schools in Nepal. These experiences reinforced my commitment to accessible, and culturally responsive mental health support.
These experiences inspired me to establish Mindful Conversations Counseling PLLC, a practice dedicated to providing supportive, compassionate, collaborative, and culturally responsive care across Texas. We offer in-person and telehealth counseling, accept insurance, direct pay, and support clients of all ages with a range of concerns, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, relationships, cultural adjustment, and neurodiversity. Our approach combines evidence-based practices with cultural sensitivity to help clients build resilience, improve communication, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence. We offer therapy in English, Nepali, Newari, Hindi, and Korean languages.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has not always been smooth. There have been plenty of storms—moments of struggle, confusions, and growth that felt overwhelming at times. In my younger years, I did not always understand or know how to process what I was experiencing. With time and reflection, however, I now see how those experiences—both difficult and enriching—have shaped who I am today.
Perhaps the most valuable lesson I have learned about myself is that growth often emerges through challenge rather than comfort. I have learned to trust the path before me, to view discomfort as a teacher, and to recognize the strength within myself to grow beyond what I once believed possible. I am committed to being a lifelong learner, continually seeking new insights that deepen my understanding and enrich my work.
While we cannot always control what happens to us, we do have the power to choose how we respond and how we allow our experiences to inform our future. Every step, including those marked by hardship, has brought me closer to who I am meant to become and to the meaningful work I strive to pursue.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients and to be a collaborative partner in their therapeutic journeys. I strive to create a welcoming and comfortable environment—whether we share a cup of tea or coffee, settle into a couch, or simply talk openly and honestly. My work includes counseling children, individuals, couples, and families, each with unique story.
In addition to individual and family therapy, I facilitate support groups on meaningful topics such as generational trauma, parenting, grief, and confidence-building for children. These groups provide safe, supportive spaces for individuals and community members to come together, share experiences, learn from one another, and grow. For children, these groups are designed to encourage confidence, resilience, and critical thinking skills in age-appropriate and engaging ways.
I deeply appreciate the sense of connection that emerges in these settings; support groups can cultivate community, mutual understanding, and unity in powerful ways. I also enjoy incorporating shared moments like food into our group conversations—breaking bread together can make difficult conversations feel more accessible, fostering connection, empathy, and a sense of togetherness. In my work, I believe that mental health extends beyond individual sessions—it is reflected in the relationships we build, the communities we create, and the compassionate spaces where people feel seen, heard and supported.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Beginning a career is both exciting and challenging. Establishing a support network of mentors, peers, and colleagues offers valuable guidance, perspective, and encouragement during early development and beyond. Mentorship and meaningful connections can accelerate learning and help navigate unfamiliar situations.
Continuous learning and curiosity are essential for sustained growth.
Embracing a growth mindset—encourages resilience and the ability to view challenges as opportunities for improvement. This perspective fosters perseverance and adaptability across different stages of a professional and personal life.
