Meet Justin Ray White of Turnaways in Waller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Ray White.

Justin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ever since I was little, music was a HUGE thing for me. The first artist I remember listening to over and over was Elvis Presley, that was just always playing around the house. From country to rock and roll to garage and punk, that was just it for me. All of it. I really didn’t see anything else I could possibly want to do, as long as it was music. I started writing songs for this band in April of 2013 and managed to get an EP out just in time for our first show which would follow the next month. May 15th was our first show ever and we opened for a band called Teenage Bottlerocket, and we were three pieces then.

Now currently a band of brothers (literally) Zeeshawn (guitar) Saad (drums) who are brothers, and my younger brother, Dallas on bass. Starting out we played everywhere we could, anything to get a name out. From sheds/barns with no A/C to living room floors and kitchens. It’s a blast and I would still do that till this day. We’ve been on tour twice to the west coast, which was the coolest thing to ever happen to any of us. Waking up in a new city, meeting new people, playing loud rock and roll. It’s just the best, and sometimes you gain lifetime friendships through it, and that definitely warms your heart. I’m grateful for it all.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I feel like most people go through a struggle or a rough patch along the way. But for us, it’s all about challenging ourselves. Taking a negative into a positive. You always want to do better and perfect your craft (music or not,) But music is all we know. And if it’s all you know, you might as well push yourself to do your best and have fun while doing it. Fun is the most important part.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Turnaways – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I sing, write, and play guitar. We are known for rockin and rollin, and making ya dance dance dance! We can get a tune stuck in your head as you walk out of the venue at the end of the night babydoll!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We have two new singles coming out this year and a music video for each. We definitely want to get back on the road in the near future so that’s always in the works.
