Meet Justin Simon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Simon.

Justin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was working at Verizon Wireless, they ended my position and told me I could get a promotion and move to AZ, California, or NYC. I wanted to move badly too because I recently ended a long relationship and I just wanted a fresh start. I just visited New York in the summer, so I thought it was perfect. However, I spoke to some of the brothers at WOC-Intl (my church), and they helped me understand how God works in regards to opening doors. That God doesn’t have you start something move on and start something else without finishing what you originally started. I had begun taking DIT (Disciple in Training) at my church, so I couldn’t leave Houston until I finished the 4yr program. After meditating on that, I allowed Verizon to lay me off, and I accepted my severance package. That was the second time I had been laid off from a job I was successful at. I prayed and asked God to allow me to start a business that could be profitable, one I wouldn’t grow tired of, and one that I could help people with. Maybe three days later, deejaying came to mind. I reached out to my friend Bruno and he gave me a few lessons. Then I went to guitar center and bought my first two controllers. No coincidence I was invited by my church to join the sound team learning how to set up and run sound equipment. That’s how I knew it was from God because of the parallel to the natural and Spiritual world. That’s where it began, and this is where it has taken me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not, there is plenty of dry spells. Lack of gigs, not enough marketing, sometimes just not enough confidence to believe I can truly satisfy the crowd or customer for the particular event. Scheduling can also be an issue I worship on Friday evenings, which is a very popular night for deejaying.

Please tell us about your work.
I am a DJ, and The purpose is to rock the crowd and satisfy whoever booked you for the event. Most proud of being able to serve the community and work with a local artist as well as supporting them along their journey too. I go above and beyond many other DJ’s may leave when the event is over, I leave when the last person leaves. I intend to serve, and my service is entertaining the crowd and creating a memorable experience.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to book more weddings. I look forward to bringing out my vinyl’s to more gigs.
