Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalette Alspaugh.
Kalette, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Beautiful Feet Studio has been my dream since I was a 15-year-old kiddo! I was born and raised here in the Richmond/Rosenberg area. I knew when I was a sophomore at Foster High School here in Richmond that one day I wanted to own and lead a studio of a different kind!
Upon HS graduation, I went away and studied business at Baylor for four years while managing in the restaurant industry, and upon returning home after graduation I worked for a couple of different companies in management for almost 10 years and married the love of my life, Jeremy Alspaugh!
Two short years ago during one of the most challenging seasons of my life, I felt the Lord was calling me to step out in faith and start the dream business he had planted in my heart 15 years before! I did! And so far, it’s gone quite well! I had and still have a BIG vision to see artists of all kinds: dancers, painters, sculptors, thespians, and musicians alike all working together in excellence for the glory of God to enjoy creating beautiful art to help themselves and others better understand God’s BIG Love!
I started off while helping lead the management teams of two Chick-fil-A’s with a brilliant owner/operator Quart Graves, teaching dance students in after-school programs and at local churches and schools! Eventually, over the course of a year, that grew into our desire and readiness to have our own little space where we now reside at 1864 FM 359 right here in Richmond, TX!
We’re super unique! We take our kiddos to nursing homes and hospitals for their recitals which we call “Bringing Good” Events to bless the patients and residents there! My staff and I also do weekly outreaches in the community with financially disadvantaged, orphaned, and physically restricted children, including child survivors of human trafficking… we believe that through the arts we can bless and “bring good” to the lives of many!
These outreach workshop experiences are all provided free of charge to these children and their families because of our incredibly generous studio staff and members and our generous partners through the non-profit my team and I created called Hand Picked, Inc 501c3! We believe every child has been hand-picked by God for Love, Identity, and Purpose and try to communicate this theme in everything that we do! It’s a blast and a privilege to serve my community in this way and in the most authentic way… a DREAM come TRUE!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a completely smooth road…. while I’ve encountered countless miracles, there have been some pretty big let downs, challenges, experiences that were seemingly traumatic losses along the way… however, nothing to spend much time complaining about… I believe God is in control, and that in the end, He gets his recompense and I get His goodness and grace that I don’t deserve. 🙂
Please tell us about Beautiful Feet Studio of Dance & The Arts.
Our business is pretty much the funnest place ever! My awesome team of artistic partners (staff) and I get to spend every day with people we love! We dance and sing and paint and play the piano!
Our mission is to “bring good” through the arts by providing joyful experiences of training in artistic excellence and opportunities for our partners and members to bring good to the community both locally and around the world! We offer multiple styles of dance to ages 2-65 including ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop and more! We also offer weekly painting and crafts classes for children and piano lessons too!
I believe the primary thing that sets our studio apart is our faith! Anything and everything we do is centered around our Love of God and for people and our belief that He loves and wants to draw near to everyone! We simply work together toward excellence daily in our selected crafts for his glory and the good of one another!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memories from childhood are mostly from my grandmother’s house… she passed away just three short years ago just before Thanksgiving. We called her Mama… pronounced “MawMaw”. I was at her house every week… every day usually depending on the season. We would watch our favorite shows, look up important things in the encyclopedia for homework… like the real encyclopedia… like the big book set…
And most importantly she would teach me or “let me help” her with the baking and the sewing, which she was quite well-known for! You couldn’t beat her chocolate chip cookie! She’s my inspiration…and likely why my whole family is so “artsy”.
