Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamryn McKinney.
Hi Kamryn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My love for dance started when I was around seven. My dad and I would watch James Brown movies and documentaries together, and that energy just pulled me in. I started performing little shows for my family, and my parents saw how much I loved it, so they put me in a school program. From there it just grew, I joined Kinetic in middle school, and by high school I knew dance was more than a hobby for me. Joining Inertia Dance company and Riot Squad at Soundbox Studios gave me the space to grow, and eventually I was dancing with artists and featured in music videos. For me, dance has always been about joy and expression, and I feel grateful that what started in my living room has turned into a real career path.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an easy journey by any means. There were plenty of no’s along the way, but I chose to see them as stepping stones instead of setbacks. Every rejection pushed me to train harder, stay dedicated, and prove myself. Looking back, I’m grateful for those challenges because they gave me resilience and shaped me into the artist I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a dancer, model, and actress, and I think what sets me apart is that I’m truly a multi-talented artist. I consider myself a jack of all trades, and I approach everything with the belief that my mind is limitless. No matter how difficult something might seem, I know I can achieve it if I commit to it. I don’t see limits, I see opportunities.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love about Houston most is the culture, the food, and the genuine Southern hospitality you feel here. It really makes the city unique. What I dislike? The traffic…and honestly, some of the drivers *laughs*.
