Meet Karen Borne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Borne.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story started approximately 1 1/2 years ago when I met a Fine Artist, Carolyn Bryan Hancock, in my neighborhood. Carolyn was explaining that she had lost her inspiration to paint, and I suggested we collaborate on a painting since I used to model as a younger woman.

Little did we both know that 22 paintings and two gallery showings later, that I would become her “Muse” and she would become my partner in art!

Carolyn and I were of one mind regarding each painting, and that was, we both wanted to showcase the strength of women throughout history. Out of this vision, the collection of “The Women, portraits of emotion” was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
It really has been a smooth road. Carolyn is so professional and detailed at what she paints, and I am the ultimate at authenticity and emotion.

This is an experience I will never forget.

What else should we know?
I’ve been told that it is unusual to have a gallery showing of 22-23 paintings of one person who looks like a different individual in each and every painting.

Our goal, if you will, was to give each person in the paintings as authentic expression and emotion as possible. That is difficult to pull off.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Honestly, I have no idea. These paintings are all inspired for both of us, and we both have to feel them.

Thank you to VoyageHouston for this wonderful story on Karen Borne…and to Karen for creating personalities that fit each woman we have portrayed. We are both lucky to be in this era when realism and portraiture is the “new” thing.
