Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Zorn.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Karen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
While working for an attorney acting as her house manager/Nanny, I was taking care of her daughter and home along with their pets while she worked during the day. I found out that I had much rather take care of the pets than anything else. So, I decided to investigate what it would take to become a pet sitter, also while I was doing that I was taking care of the neighbor’s pets as well. So, from there I developed my business which evolved into full time pet sitting. I really enjoy spending time with the pets as they offer unconditional love most of the time. I can’t believe that 10 years have gone by as it just seems like yesterday that I got started. It’s an incredible feeling when you can start something and see it grow the way we have. I always said that I wanted a job to be able to dress in blue jeans for work and I found much more.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggle would be finding good help along the way. This is not an easy job and it takes a special person to do this job. But I have been lucky and found some really good sitters over the years.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about PetPals Pet Sitting – what should we know?
PetPals Pet Sitting offer’s in-home pet care for those clients that do not want to put their pet at a kennel away from home. That way the pet can stay in the comfort of their own home. Many clients have multiple pets and this service is a much better fit for those that have more than one pet. Also, when you put your pet in a kennel there is no guarantee that they won’t return home sick. We offer daily pet sit visits for those that travel, where the sitter is there for 30 minutes, this includes to let the pet out back or walk if the pet is a dog, also to change the water and feed if needed, if it’s a cat we feed, change the water, and clean the litter box as well as we offer to spend time with the pet and play with them or love on them. We also offer Pet Taxi if you need your pet dropped off at the Vet or Groomer. Also, Overnight Stays if you want a sitter to spend the night with the pet. What sets us apart from most pet sitting services is we offer an on-call service meaning if you get stuck at work for a meeting and can’t get home you can contact us and we will come by your home and let your pup out back, walk them or feed if needed, that takes the pressure off the client if they need to stay over at work. Or of the have an event and get stuck then we can help out.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I must give credit to some of my sitters that work for me because without them this would not be a successful business.
