Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Ennis.
Hi Katelyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Marketing wasn’t something I studied in a classroom first; it was something I learned hands-on in my family’s jewelry business. I was involved in almost every detail, from CAD design and running the shop to directing photo shoots and building ad campaigns. Seeing a shoot turn into an ad, and that ad turn into real revenue, showed me the power of authentic marketing.
When my father retired and sold the business, the new ownership took the company in a different direction, which ultimately led to an unexpected layoff. At 26, I faced a choice, and I chose to bet on myself.
I enrolled full-time to get my degree in Business Administration with a marketing focus. Balancing honors coursework while raising kids, keeping a home, and navigating heavy personal loss was tough, but it proved to me what I was truly capable of and set the fire off.
That dedication opened the door to an internship at Harper Grayson Communications, which turned into a permanent role as their Paid Ads and Engagement Lead. That dedication opened the door to an internship at Harper Grayson Communications. After diving into the behind-the-scenes operations, I naturally gravitated toward paid digital strategy, which led to my current permanent role as Paid Ads and Engagement Lead. Over these past eight months, I’ve gotten to learn, grow, and help local businesses in an environment that genuinely values family, mental health, and employee well-being
To take my work even further, I’m finishing up a degree in Energy, Manufacturing & Trade Management. My goal is to master the operational and compliance side of high-stakes trades like oil and gas, electric, plumbing, and construction so I can bridge the gap between technical operations and powerful marketing. Looking back, what felt like a setback at 26 was really just the push I needed to build a career entirely on my own terms with the support of my family and really great leaders.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not.
While a lot of people in their twenties were out enjoying that chapter of life, I was heads-down working, building, and constantly pushing forward. I missed out on many of the typical experiences people get to have at that age because I was so focused on building a secure future and giving myself room to heal and making my family proud.
On top of the long hours and heavy workload, navigating the loss of my brother, my biological father, and my grandmother all within a six-year span made that season exceptionally heavy. Sacrificing the fun and putting in the relentless work wasn’t always easy, but it was what I had to do to set my family and myself up for the long haul. Looking back, every single sacrifice was worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Harper Grayson Communications, I’m the Paid Ads and Engagement Lead, certified across platforms like LinkedIn, Google, and Meta. My job isn’t just setting up ads. It’s digging into the data and turning those numbers into real problem-solving for our clients.
If you ask my coworkers, they’d probably tell you I ask a million questions! But I do that because I genuinely care and on fortunately our team is always ready to help each other level up. Our clients are running complex, demanding businesses, and showing up online isn’t something they have the time or interest to master every single day. They count on us to lead them through an industry that can feel overwhelming, and we treat them like real people, not just clients.
What sets me apart is that I’m relentless when it comes to learning and growing. I’m always willing to listen, go the extra mile, and come from a place of genuine understanding. I just pride myself on being a good person who leads with empathy.
As for what I’m most proud of, it’s HGC itself. This team is made up of powerful women, along with a few ridiculously talented men, who are not only top tier at what they do, but have equally great hearts. Being chosen to stand alongside a team that people rant and rave about because they are both exceptionally skilled and good human beings is a true blessing that I never take for granted.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The diversity, potential, and sheer creativity everyone brings to the city is incredible. There is so much energy here and seeing people from all different backgrounds come together and bring fresh ideas to life makes it an amazing place to grow and build something. It feels like you can be anyone you want to be here. Endless possibilities. What I like the least? That is a no brainer, the traffic! I think pretty much everyone can agree on that one.
