Meet Katherine Wright and James Johnson of Bounce Hydration

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Wright and James Johnson.

Katherine and James, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We founded Bounce Hydration in May of 2018. We wanted to bring something unique to the wellness space in Houston. After positive visits to IV hydration clinics in places like Las Vegas and Los Angeles, we realized Houston was missing such an experience.

James is a Registered Nurse with ten years of nursing experience, and he felt this would be a great opportunity to fully utilize his skill set. Katherine, along with six others, was a co-founder of Bounce Energy in 2008 and comes from an operational background. We felt that we could work well together as a team.

After discussions with our medical director and our investors, we decided that one of the key differentiators for Bounce Hydration would be our status as a mobile business. With a completely customized Mercedes Sprinter as our mobile spa, we can do up to five drips in one time in the van. This includes Wi-Fi, two televisions, surround sound, and everything we need for the actual IVs.

We don’t limit ourselves to the van, as we can set up IVs pretty much anywhere – home, office, events, weddings. Our several demo events during Summer 2018 brought us a lot of positive feedback, as clients loved how they energized they felt after the drip.

We officially opened to the public on August 30th, 2018.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha. No. Starting a new business is hard! Doing something that’s very new is hard! Business development is hard! Trying to figure out the mobile thing is also hard.

I’m not complaining – it’s also a lot of fun, but there are times when it’s super-challenging. For example, we had an idea of who we thought our ideal customer was when we launched. As it happens, they aren’t the people we actually give drips too. In the beginning, we would drive to places where we thought our ideal customer was and got frustrated when that person didn’t want to just “pop in” to have a drip in the middle of their day.

It was disheartening to sit in a van with little to no customers. We were disappointed, wondering why the vision in our head wasn’t coming to fruition. Thankfully, we could adjust due to the small and spry nature of our business, so we have since changed our strategy. We are doing a lot of online marketing, and we’re finding more success in providing concierge services to clients who directly request our service.

Filling an actual demand is working out a lot better than showing up somewhere and hoping for drips.
