Meet Katie Woodard of Kingwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Woodard.

Hi Katie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My exciting journey into boutique ownership truly began long before I opened my doors! Growing up, I loved watching my mother thrive in retail. Through her, I developed a deep appreciation for customer service and the vibrant energy of a fantastic shopping experience. Those lessons stayed with me as I took on roles at Gap and later became a Sales Manager at LOFT, where I discovered my passion for styling, sales, and, most importantly, empowering women to feel their absolute best.

Originally from Humble, I moved to Kingwood during high school, which has always felt like home to me. Over the years, I’ve been actively involved in my community and had the joy of helping others start their own businesses—from a chic women’s boutique to a beloved chai tea venture and even a lively cocktail lounge. This entrepreneurial spirit, along with my experience in executive recruiting, has given me a solid foundation in business, people skills, and fostering growth.

While I enjoyed my success in executive recruiting, I felt a heartfelt calling to pursue something more personal, something that would allow me to give back to the amazing community that has shaped my life. I noticed a wonderful opportunity in Kingwood for a women’s boutique that could genuinely cater to a diverse range of customers, from mothers to daughters, by offering stylish yet accessible pieces. My vision was to create a warm, inspiring space right in the heart of Kingwood, where women could come together and celebrate life.

Opening a boutique had always been my dream, although it sometimes felt like an unreachable goal. That all changed when I discovered Apricot Lane Boutique! The franchise model offered the support, structure, and proven framework I needed to confidently take that leap into business ownership and truly feel supported.

For me, this boutique represents so much more than just a store; it’s a responsibility that I cherish. I hold myself to high standards because I understand the significant role we play in our customers’ lives. Whether it’s helping a woman feel beautiful in what she wears, creating a memorable shopping experience, or simply being a welcoming place where everyone feels valued, that mission drives me every single day. I can’t wait to share this journey with all of you!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been great, and more than we could have expected. We were so busy that I had to order and flip the entire store after our opening weekend, which was totally unexpected, but my team showed up and helped me make it happen.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We offer an extensive selection of women’s clothing in a diverse range of sizes and styles, all at prices that won’t break the bank. Our goal is to empower women by helping them feel both comfortable and confident in their attire. Every piece is thoughtfully curated by me, as I take great pride in understanding my community’s unique tastes and preferences. I carefully shop for each item, ensuring that our collection truly reflects the needs and desires of the women we serve.

What matters most to you? Why?
Supporting my community and the women in it. Having women of all ages and sizes work in the store so they can relate to our customers.
