Hi Katy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ive always been into beauty, but I definitely started to notice how much I liked it when I got to high school in 2015. I started waxing my own brows in the 9th grade which eventually evolved into me waxing my own arms, legs and so forth. 2015 was also a really big year for makeup which is when I started to pick up on that too. Fast forwarding to after high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do career wise. I was constantly changing my major in collage until one day something just clicked. I realized how I would sit in my mirror every night doing my makeup and thought, why can’t I make this my career? I started to look up makeup schools near me and that’s when I came across esthetican school. I had never heard of an esthetician but when I went through everything one learned, it was everything I enjoyed doing and more. I was hesitant because I knew I would go with the intent of starting my own business as soon as graduated, but with the support of my family and fiancée, I was able to do it. One month after completing my state exams, skn radiance was up and running for business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part it’s been really smooth. Once I figured out that going into esthetics was the career path I wanted to take, everything kind of just fell into place after that. Whenever I opened skn radiance I started with zero clientele, so I had definitely had to juggle a couple of jobs to be able to afford rent and products for my business but after a few months of being open I was able to leave my jobs and make skn radiance my top priority.
