Today we’d like to introduce you to Katya Du Pond.
Hi Katya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a young age I enjoyed drawing and crafting. Any where I would grab a pen and a napkin and would draw whatever was in front of me. Born and raised in Mexico …My love for painting started at 14 when I was able to take classes in Mexico City for a few months and learned to use Pastels. Passionate about the arts / plastic and performing arts we moved to the city of Queretaro where I did theatre and continued creating backdrops and costumes. By 18 I decided to join the Beauty Arts Institute for the Visual Arts Bachelor Program, where grew more my interest in Plastic Arts. Followed by a transfer to Houston where I was able to acquire an Interior Design Associate where I combined my love for Art and creating.
But my biggest and more meaningful season in my life was when I was gifted with my 2 daughters, my greatest creations!! which I was able to raise and love and guide in the creative journey of motherhood! All while continuing creating and painting for pleasure and for nonprofit and enriching my art by my life experiences and seasons.
Finally all grown up.. I decided to launch my first solo exhibition in 2019 followed by consecutive exhibitions in places like Dubai, New York, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas and of course Houston!
More is to come as now I have grown so much in my craft and will continue to take my inspirations all over the world and my local collectors.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been beautiful! even with the struggles. I would not trade it as it has been my companion, my therapy and my tool to inspire others. It is rewarding when a life is touched by the message in my paintings and to have people want to have my art in their space, their homes.. it is a complete honor
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I call my self a Creative.. a Paintress “Created to Create” in all I do I want to express beauty and Harmony, to uplift the soul to believe and hope. I like exploring different mediums. I enjoy watercolors but paint mainly with acrylics, mixed media, collage and with fabric…i have an earthly color palette and have a very expressionist style…I am not done exploring though , I love inventing and just enjoy different materials.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Hard to day with the economy as is right now… a lot of artists are having to close or reinvent their studios. I see a new interest on people wanting to take my art classes as a form of therapy and lifestyle enhancement which allows me to diversify my income. I see also a real appreciation for actual hand made products as the digital era has made creators skip the very important design process … I believe that is a real artist and will see more of the fast paced commercial art.
