Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Gilbreath.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Just a Happy, creative spirit who enjoys painting, working with crocodile leather, making jewelry, and working with a clothing designer. I source handwoven and vintage textiles, bring them to Glenda Vann Ogden and get back wonderful wearable, unique designs.
And yes, had a previous corporate life; something that is now in the rearview mirror.
And sold antiques, and leather books, and home accessories… then found my way to what I love doing now; fashion and accessories.
My designs are sold at shows, DASH at Silver Street Studios….and this March 27th will be featured in a Champagne Fashion Show benefitting the Round Top Family Library …the show will be held at Market Hill, the Paul Michael venue.
Please tell us about your art.
My paintings are casual and abstract; pleasing to the eye and designed to pull a favorite color into the room. They are mixed media with thickly applied paint.
Crocodile belts are one of my favorite fashion accessories; they are bold and unique and make the wearer feel special.
Clothing is made from the handwoven textiles that I source; many come from Africa. Each piece of textile is hand woven…. my fashion design associate visits with each textile and then creates something wonderful to wear.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Just do what you can and be happy with that.

My work is shown at the DASH Market, held twice a year at the Silver Street Studios.
At Round Top with Gallery Auctions Shop at the Paul Michael Venue three times a year.
Also, at MAI at the Old Katy Road Design Center for trunk shows.
