Meet Kayanne McDermott-Awofeso of Houston, Tx

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayanne McDermott-Awofeso.

Hi Kayanne, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My father was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins lymphoma in 1999. The western medicine gave up on him after some series of chemotherapy. He later met a naturopathoc doctor who taught and educated mum on healthy eating, using food as medicine & the power of herbs. So my mum began to juice and make smoothies for my mum. My dad stopped eating meat, eat more veggies & fruits as well as implemented herbs & nutritional supplements. Over time, he bagan to improve. As I begin to see the turnaround in my dad, I looked into what a naturopathic doctor is and I decided to go in that direction. Although my dad is no longer alive, he lived 11 years cancer free and it was not the cause of his death. Today, I’m using the same approach to teach others how to adapt a healthy lifestyle & use food as their medicine. Although medication has its place and at times needed, it’s important that we know how to manage & improve ourselves through simple lifestyle changes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No it has not been smooth because naturopathy sometimes may not be the most financial rewarding field because the people that needs the most help.with this approach or want to employ this type of approach can’t afford it. So I would find myself discounting my services often or at times giving away services because my seeing that person get better outweighs the financial aspect. Because of that, I would have to maintain a ‘9-5’ so that the bills can be paid. Another aspect is that some people wait too long to implement this type of approach for their betterment so they end up losing their life because of this hence why prevention is key to overcoming many health challenges.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love that I can use my creativity to offer customized solutions to each individual to overcome their health challenges, from.customized meal plans to customized recommendations of home remedies or nutritional supplemention for each person. I’m most proud when clients return to me with good report that their issues are reversed or improved. What sets me apart is that God is my foundation to helping my clients, I pray over my business and clients for them to recover. Also soon I may be including prayer as a service to my business for clients who welcomes that & would want that as part of our interaction.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
What has helped me is the importance of opening my mouth and being bold about what I do and believing that I’m good and passionate about what I do. When it comes to networking, one should be bold, confident & verbal. For finding a mentor, is first to pray and ask God for that right mentor to be sent to you. That mentor has to value you what you do, believe in you and will commit to.holding your hand to success, whatever that looks like for you.
