Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Ramirez.
Kayla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began my yoga journey back in 2013. I started with the purpose of stretching. Just releasing tightness and tension in my body. It was nothing serious. I moved to Austin in 2015, that’s where my experience began to deepen. My roommate introduced me to Kundalini Yoga and I fell in love with it. Practicing every day turned my practice into something more spiritual and mental.
The friends that I lived with were entrepreneurs and helped me established a desire to create my own business. I’ve combined my love for yoga and it’s spiritualistic nature with art. A year later I moved back to Houston, where I volunteered at a Yoga studio in Cypress that just opened, Some like it Hot Yoga and Fitness. From that my practice became much stronger and my mindset became stronger. With the influence of teachers, I then got my certification a year later. And I have been teaching ever since.
While practicing and sharing my knowledge of yoga with others, I have been created jewelry such as mala beads, bracelets, etc also incorporating crystals. This business also includes crochet headbands and bags and also prints. Though my website is still under construction I plan on having it up and running in the next month or so.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life isn’t a smooth road at all. We all have our struggles no matter if it’s physical or mental. I personally haven’t gone through anything drastic. I did have a lot of battles within myself, such as self-acceptance, self-identity, and self-expression, etc.
Masaya Tree – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Masaya Tree. The word Masaya (mah-SAH-yah) comes from the Filipino Tagalog language meaning “happy”. A Tree or any source of the living plant is the source of life. The combination of Masaya Tree creates “Happy life”.
What started out as a little side project of giving handmade gifts to friends and family members turned into a desire to share our handmade products with the world.
Everything created is handmade. Taking the time to make the product is worth giving. No matter if it’s crocheted for 6 hours or made within 15 minutes.
I’m most proud of finally deciding to do it and sharing it with everyone.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Getting certified as a Yoga Instructor.
