Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayley George.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kayley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Many people aren’t as lucky as I was to have mapped out my life plan at an early age. From high school, I knew the trajectory of my education and career. I can’t put a pin on the time when I knew food was my passion, but it’s always been my path. Finishing my undergraduate degree early and hopping onto the fast-track towards my credentials, I was on fire for the world of nutrition.
As soon as I knocked out my training to become a Registered Dietitian, I knew I wanted something more than the traditional 9-5 role expected of me and my peers. I had the drive and hunger for something so much bigger. I was the hardest working person I knew, so I set out to make a living on my own terms at only 22 years old. With the romanticized idea of being my own boss, working a flexible schedule, and avoiding traffic in Houston, I began seeking out opportunities in my community to work as a dietitian.
I stumbled my way through the early years of entrepreneurship like many people do. I got my foot in as many doors as I could and learned through trial and error. I started out launching a meal prep business (A La Carte Nutrition, LLC) and then simultaneously built my experience in private practice and consulting.
Two and a half years in, I made the leap to virtual nutrition coaching and haven’t looked back since! Just like my clients’ weight loss journey, there has been nothing linear about my career path. It’s taken blood, sweat, and tears to say that I am now living my dream job. I have more freedom and flexibility than ever before to serve my clients and truly work on my own terms!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If any entrepreneur tells you that they’ve had an easy journey, they are lying. There’s nothing pretty about making it on your own. Without any security of a paycheck, you have to believe in yourself more than anyone else in order to make it.
My first two years in entrepreneurship, I was completely broke. At the same time, I was paying undergraduate student loans and current graduate school tuition. With the help of my parents, I was able to get by on little to no income. I put in countless hours of labor for almost nothing in return monetarily. But, this hustle built a strong foundation for my reputation as an entrepreneur and expert in my field.
While it may look like I’m living a dream career now, few people recognize the years of struggling that went on behind the scenes. To be able to make it on your own, you have to be prepared for sacrifice in all areas of your life. This career path is not for the faint of heart!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m not your average Instagram health coach. I’m a Registered Dietitian who helps busy brides crush their #weddinggoals. Brides are the star of the show, but they end up prioritizing everything else on their big day except for themselves.
In 2018, I launched my signature program, “Lose the Weight By the Date” to support brides as they reset their nutrition during the most exciting (but hectic!) season of their life. I’ve helped countless brides boost their confidence, build sustainable habits, and transform their bodies once and for all.
Unlike other dietitians, I work with my clients for 12 weeks at a time to make sure that they commit to their goals and receive the accountability they need for lasting change! Changing your habits doesn’t happen overnight, so I’ve built my 12-week program to create a permanent healthy lifestyle rather than a temporary weight loss solution.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Measuring success in my career looks different than others. While I set income benchmarks and strive to expand my business, I find the most satisfaction by earning more time and freedom. Having the flexibility to travel and work from anywhere is one of my biggest motivations for working as an entrepreneur. The more I grow, the more freedom I want to have. The one resource that you can’t get back is time, so the best paycheck that I can receive is more time to enjoy life.
