Today we’d like to introduce you to Keandra “Ke’Ke” Scott-Tatum.
Keandra “Ke’Ke,” can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My passion for writing began when I was discouraged the most during my teenage years. Denied an opportunity to advance in English to AP because the teacher told me my score wasn’t good enough made me challenge myself. I doubted myself, creative, yet academically challenged in a few ways. Even until this day, as I reflect, this is one of my most vivid incidents; I was really into creating poetry. In high school, I ended up completing an MLA 15-page paper in conjunction with a stole-winning Senior Capstone project to prove to myself I am enough to make anything happen.
I’m a musician, so when it comes to reviewing albums, I listen differently than most writers. Music started my journey but in return, gave me a wave of opportunities to explore other facets like talking about food, art, local businesses, people, interview celebrities and so much more. Although I feel my focus in college was in the wrong department, by studying marketing, it actually made me a little bit more well-rounded as an entrepreneur. I started contributing to publications in Houston, Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York until I started seeing words differently. I went from being a journalist to writing fresh content and creating traffic-driving events for small-businesses. When it comes to writing, I’ve expanded to almost anything I could put my hands on, from bios, ads, social media blurbs to press releases. Instead of shift writing or being given a topic by an editor, I was the one pitching cover stories. Some of my favorite experiences include interviewing celebrities overseas in the UK and South Africa via Skype, attending the BET Hip-Hop Awards, and platforming community influencers under the radar; yep, I enjoy playing my part in the background.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road will never be smooth for those who are purposed and has been granted vision. Becoming a successful entrepreneur takes a wealth of knowledge in the time management department, ha-ha. With a husband and an active toddler, it can take a tow on finding balance, especially as a creator. You have to encourage yourself, meditate and keep pushing. There are no words to describe the feeling of a vision you sought out flourish.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Motif N’Volume – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
