Today we’d like to introduce you to Keanna Palmer.
Hi Keanna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always enjoyed anything to do with beauty since my adolescence. I would always watch beauty tutorials on YouTube and become so intrigued. I started experimenting with nails when I was about 13 years old. My local Walmart would sell the Beginner’s Kiss Acrylic kit and I purchased one. My first time working with acrylic doing my own nails was a disaster I must say but it wouldn’t have been my last. After my first experience I put off doing nails for about 4 years until I I decided to give it another go since I was older. I would say around the end of 2017 is when I decided to give it another go, I was 19. So I went out and bought more things again, but more than what I bought the first time, From Charms, Colored Acrylic , Nail drill, Diamonds, I had to have it all! Even though I didn’t know what to do with it at the time, I knew I wanted to be different. It was the 2017 going into 2018 and nails weren’t as evolved then as they are now. At those tender years of my life I learned so much about myself. I didn’t realize how determined I was until I started my nail journey. So after reinvesting, I continued to practice on myself, and was a bit more patient on teaching myself then before. I would practice all night, when I would get off work, anytime that I could. I would practice on friends and post my work on my social medias but, I would always be afraid to step out on faith and take customers. Until this specific day, when I was getting my hair done and my hairstylist at the time, noticed my nails. I was one of her loyal clients then, I would go to her faithfully. She was so shocked when I told her I did them myself and she was encouraging me to start accepting clients. I expressed my anxiety about it but she continued to give me that PUSH. I appreciate her so much til this day because at the time I was too young to realize what she was trying to do for me. And so ,after my hair appointment she took a pic of my hands and posted them to her social media. She had and STILL has an HUGE clientele.(Kevie)As soon as she posted my nails to her page they went viral and I immediately started accepting clients THE NEXT DAY! She seen something in me I didn’t at the time. And so after that it was like a RUSH of Clients I couldn’t explain it! It was amazing! I started perfecting my craft more, I started to get good unbelievably fast! That’s when I realized it was an gift because I never thought that I would’ve been an a nail tech. I would go viral, my work would get posted on Pinterest, and people would drive just to come sit in my chair! I met some of the most amazing people! I would always do fun designs with my clients nails, Something different, something that everyone wasn’t doing at the time. All this transpired in just a year’s time because I started at the end of 2017 going into 18. It was an experience I definitely won’t forget. I decided that I wanted to do something different and rebrand as the years went on to keep it fun and thats when I decided to present my new Custom-Press On Collection and working on them has made me fall back in love with nails all over again. My nail journey has made realize that nails are my passion, and doing them brings me a Great amount of peace. I wouldn’t trade my experience for the world and I’m completely grateful .
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say the road can get a little bumpy, but that’s where faith and determination. Comes into play. The toughest obstacle I faced was perfecting my craft in the beginning , but I kept going. When it came to my craft, I’ve had many ups and downs. Doing nails could be a very Tedious Process and I learned that I was a perfectionist. I would stay up all night practicing on myself, practicing for hours. My very first client I accepted was not happy with her outcome actually, which started a smear campaign and it left me completely discouraged, I actually quit temporarily. Due to my strong support system and some encouraging words from my mom, I struck back up shortly after and continued my craft, because I was determined. I had invested so much, I couldn’t let it go to waste.
At the time I was still thinking about competition and how good everyone else was as well. As time progressed, I anxiously continued to accept clients, and as I stated before, I started to get unbelievably good, fast. I Would watch numerous tutorials, to stay spontaneous with my work, I knew that I wanted to be the best I could be. I never got too comfortable always wanted to learn something new. I still carry the same logic to this day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
