This career chose me, I didn’t think I would ever choose it. While in high school, I planned to attend college and study in the medical field but that changed during my junior year. I learned I could obtain a Cosmetologist license as well as my high school diploma and seized the opportunity. Upon graduating the first salon, I started working at was Great Clips. I loved my job and my clients and appreciated them trusting me with their hair care needs. The love and support my clients had for me was unbelievable and they never underestimated my talent as a recent high school graduate. They always left with a smile and returned which kept me motivated! I knew I had chosen the right career and I would forever work as a Professional Hairstylist.
The Cosmetology industry has so much to offer so I continued to dive in and learned more about cut and color as a stylist with Fantastic Sam’s in 2018. This is where I found my niche for natural hair care and coloring techniques. When I performed my first ombré, I knew I was going to make a great impression in this industry and meet thousands of clients in need of my talent. Although my time was short with Fantastic Sams, I gained so much knowledge but I knew I had outgrown this space and I realized my own value so I made the decision that it was time to work for myself.
Starting my own business was challenging but I was prepared to face any obstacle and continue pushing. I did not have a large clientele but I had determination. I invested every dollar into myself and my education to make sure I was prepared for the days I would have several clients. I was attending training offered by my local Armstrong McCall and Princess Professional. It’s not easy taking the big step of running a business but there was a certain kind of peace knowing I could control the energy and customer service I provide to my clients exclusively.
I’m still working and growing as a young businesswoman and I am proud of my accomplishments. I now have a steady clientele that I have found via Instagram, Facebook, Walmart, Sixflags, referrals. I meet my clients anywhere because I’m always talking to people networking! Networking is key for me. I love to attend educational training and networking events where I can continue to meet people.
Today I am an Independent owner inside of Salon and Spa Galleria Suites in Mansfield, TX I provide services such as cuts, color, blowouts, extensions, and more. I love my clients and I make it a point to give my clients the best experience. My journey in this amazing industry is still in the beginning phases but I am determined, committed and excited to continue to grow! Again this life chose me and I’m glad it did! I am The Stylin Beauty Chic!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, I prepared myself for challenges I would face in the cosmetology industry. The con of doing my cosmetology study in high school was I didn’t get much hands-on time with clients off the street. When I graduated and started preforming services at Great Clips and Fantastic Sam’s, I had to reflect when to use the knowledge from school and previous color training. For example, I had a client that had previous color and wanted to lift to a new desired color. In school, I did I learned about different products to help maintain healthy hair and have a smooth transition during a chemical service. Now knowing a lot of techniques and strategies, I’m able to customize ever clients treatment services and satisfy the client’s needs!
Please tell us about Stylin Beauty Chic by Keke.
I am a natural hair stylist that ensure my customers to have healthy hair. My highest demand service is a blowout and cut, I allow my clients to add on hair color and advice them proper salon regimen to maintain there moisture and integrity of their hair. I enjoy owning my own business because I can represent the purest form of transparency which allows my clients to trust what products and tools I use on their hair. I love to stay connected with all clients and let them know I like constructed criticism. I have natural hair my self so I can relate to concerns and struggle they may have. I always want to find the best outcome to keep a smile on all client’s faces.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is when I would play like a Doctor or a teacher with my Bratz dolls or American girl dolls. Looking back, it helped me see that at a very young age, I knew I wanted to be a leader and a social person.
