Today we’d like to introduce you to Keira Healy.
Hi Keira, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Keira Healy. I am 12 years old and live on the east coast (outside of Baltimore, MD). My passion for art and design started as soon as I could hold a crayon. I am grateful for the inspiration of my elementary art teachers. My art has been recognized and included in exhibits in person and virtually. My love of baseball recently crossed paths with my passion for art. During the 2022 MLB season, I started creating custom art for players and families as a way to show my appreciation as a fan. Much to my surprise, several players from different teams and their families found my art, connected with me on social media and I even got to personally give them prints of the art that I made before games. Which brings me to Houston… virtually! I have been a huge fan of Trey Mancini since he made his debut with the Orioles in 2016. Losing Trey to the Astros gave me an opportunity to learn more about the team. I followed along like so many others and watched their road to victory! After sharing my art with Trey, I was inspired to make new art for his new teammates. The Houston fans were so encouraging on social media as I shared work that I did for a bunch of players including, Peña, Stanek, and Vázquez. Sharing my art has been a great way to meet new fellow MLB fans as well as connect with Farm Teams coaches and players alike. I am looking forward to continuing to grow my skills and share my work with the world, a visit to Houston is now on my official bucket list!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest struggle, which I think most people can relate to, is believing in myself and trusting that my art will connect with others. Something that has really given me the confidence that I did not have a few months ago when starting (and to be honest some days I still lack confidence) is the support I have been given.
I shared earlier how my passion for Baseball and Art crossed paths, well, the players are super busy playing baseball so the chances of them noticing my art on Instagram is little to none.
When you are in a situation like that you have to get creative. I started sharing it with their family, significant others and friends. They have been some real MVPs getting the art to the players, while also sharing it on social media for other fans to see.
I am so grateful for their families that have shared my art. Why? Because on days I think my art wasn’t good enough and I should give up, those memories tend to swing in and make me remember how someone who has never met me and knows little facts about me, supported me and gave me major self-confidence.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create digital art from client photographs or my own designs. I hand draw all of my digital illustrations, that could be client art or my free draw art. I upload most of my own designs to RedBubble.
I have recently received more offers to do graphic designs for various small businesses and fellow social media accounts. The latest work I have done is for a podcast that shares information on Major League Baseball but specifically the Baltimore Orioles. Justin from “Boom Boom Birdland” has given me an opportunity to contribute to his podcast via digital art. I have been working on podcast episode covers and graphics for promotional social media posts. Another area I have grown in while working with Justin, is my Digital Sports Illustrations. I am busy creating Custom Sports Illustrations for MLB, MiLB, NFL, NBA, fans as well as local league fans.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest inspiration and support comes from my Mom. Her encouragement gave me the courage to share my designs with the world. I am so grateful for the support that she has given me during this journey.
I am so grateful for all the support from people on social media. I love seeing the likes, shares and insights on my posts. So many days there are arts that I am hesitant on posting but I end up posting it anyway, those are usually the ones that get the most engagement.
I am so excited when I get an order from clients. There is always a happy dance and then I get to work. I could not be any more appreciative of the orders that I have gotten along the way.
