Thanks for sharing your story with us Keisha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My children and I have sensitive skin which has caused some minor to severe allergic reactions like eczema, acne breakouts, rashes, and skin discolorations that have occurred more frequently than we would have liked. Unfortunately, my 23-year-old son has the most severe case of eczema, and after a horrible bout of having a skin infection associated with his eczema, I realized that I needed to take a deeper look at his condition and understand why it wasn’t improving. I set an appointment with his primary care doctor to have an allergy test administered, the results revealed that he was allergic to almost everything! I didn’t know what to do at that point, but my main concern was the prolonged use of prescription drugs because the side effects had a huge impact on his overall health.
I began researching the side effects of the medications the doctors prescribed while researching alternative medications but it seemed as if all of the medications worked the same. I then started to search for natural remedies on the internet. I read blogs, articles, and reviews to see what worked for people who were having the same issues. Eventually, I stopped using the prescription meds and the over- the counter drugs that we had been habitually using for years. My family and I converted to using natural skincare products during the latter part of 2018 and we haven’t looked back since. In March of 2019, I was laid off from my job of 4 years but I’ve always been an entrepreneur which made it easy for me to decide to start a small family business making natural skincare products to help others who are suffering from similar issues. We have only been in business for a year but it feels like we’ve been doing this for a decade. Our goal is to continue to raise awareness about the importance of skincare and make a positive impact on the world by sharing our success story.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Because we’re a home-based business, we work around the clock to ensure we produce quality products which mean we invest our personal finances into the business, we make our products from scratch, and we sell our products within our local community. However, due to the recent stay home order resulting from COVID 19, business is rather slow. Although we have an e-commerce website, sales increased at the beginning of the year but have since decreased due to the uncertainty of the economy. We are hopeful that things will go back to normal once the economy becomes stable again.
