Today we’d like to introduce you to Kellie Moon.
Kellie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have lived, dreamed, and absorbed fitness into my heart and soul ever since I was five years old when I started taking dance classes. Fitness was so ingrained in my being that I not only continued performing as a dancer and a cheerleader throughout all my academic years, I expanded my participation in a variety of fitness programs throughout college to include not only college cheerleading and dancing, but also intermural college volleyball, and flag football. I also instructed group aerobic classes for several years.
After graduating from college with a Bachelor in Business & Management, my passion for fitness and helping others achieve their fitness aspirations and goals continued and, although balancing a family and a career was challenging at times, I have learned, and shared with others around me, that finding time for yourself, for your passion, and your health is very important, and a great example for others.
After raising two daughters and them going to college, I continued to pursue my passion for fitness and focused on giving back to our community by building a no judgment community health and wellness studio in League City, Texas, known as our CKO Kickboxing studio. The primary mission of our studio has been to help our members realize their God-given potential in order to be successful, healthy, and happy in their daily lives.
For me, CKO Kickboxing is not entirely about Kickboxing. For me, the institution of our CKO Kickboxing studio is my vehicle to help uplift, validate and build confidence and self-esteem in our amazing members and members-to-be!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
All the challenges I’ve been through in my life have both equipped me with the necessary tools and prepared me to establish the presence of the CKO Kickboxing studio in the city of League City, Texas, to serve the members of our community. These challenges included overcoming the anxiety of the unknown, of not knowing what I didn’t know to establish and operate a successful CKO Kickboxing studio; understanding and managing the cost of opening the CKO studio; finding a viable source of funding; identifying and hiring the right staff and trainers who are both willing and able to propagate the personal set of values, and support the vision, I have for the studio; identifying, installing, operating, and maintaining the necessary set of equipment that would create the most fitness value to our members; and last but not least, maintaining and operating the studio.
By no means any of those challenges were easy to overcome, but one by one, and with the help with many of our awesome community members, I was able to overcome them. These challenges have definitely been worth the investment and the personal commitment to overcome them.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the CKO Kickboxing League City story. Tell us more about the business.
CKO Kickboxing was originally established in Hoboken, NJ, with the purpose of offering an intense all-around fitness workout that simultaneously allows members/participants to burn fat, reduce stress, tone up, improve cardio, increase muscle strength, burn mega calories (up to 1,200 calories per class), lose weight, enhance response time, and enhance hand-eye coordination, ultimately helping them get healthier, stronger, fitter, and be happier with themselves, all the while having fun in these 1-hour long, instructor-led classes.
What makes our CKO Kickboxing studio stand out is the usage of real heavy boxing bags. By punching and kicking these heave bags, members achieve real results and do so in a relatively short amount of time. Our fun and engaging group fitness classes keep the punches and kicks basic to focus on the fitness aspect of the workout. Since our kickboxing classes are for both beginner and advanced levels, each member works out at their own pace. At the no-judgment CKO Kickboxing studio, REAL PEOPLE use REAL HEAVY BAGS to get REAL RESULTS.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Both luck and faith has played a contributing role in establishing the CKO Kickboxing studio in League City, Texas. To start with, I landed on the CKO kickboxing organization by pure coincidence as I was looking for a viable fitness institution that I can establish in the League City area. After conducting much research on it, comparing it to several of its known competitors, it was obvious the values and operating philosophies defined and followed by the CKO Kickboxing organization lined up quite nicely with mines. Bad luck struck when Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coast, and suddenly not only there were significant delays, but construction costs increased significantly. Took lots of patience and persistence to eventually open the studio’s doors.
