Meet Kelly Doonan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Doonan.

Kelly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a sophomore at The University of Texas at Austin, I was looking for an internship and happened upon an opportunity with a prominent wedding planning firm in Austin. After a wonderful experience as a wedding planning intern, I opted for an internship with a wedding venue in Austin. Deciding that the venue side of things wasn’t my cup of tea, I opted to do another wedding planning internship during my senior year. Upon graduation, I was accepted into the master’s program at the University of Houston Conrad Hilton College where I earned a master’s degree in Hospitality Management with an emphasis in event planning. With my master’s degree under my belt, I decided to open my own business in December 2013 which I called Sparkle & Shine Events. Fast forward to January 2020, I chose to change the name to Kelly Doonan Events as it seemed a more natural fit.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Despite some normal hiccups, it’s actually been a pretty smooth road for me. I have had some amazing clients and mentors over the years who are always sending me referrals which I so appreciate!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kelly Doonan Events – what should we know?
We specialize in event planning, specifically luxury weddings. We do smaller events, such as birthday parties, but really our expertise is in all things wedding. We pride ourselves in our ability to always be available to clients. We don’t limit contact with the client even if they book our smallest package. Past clients truly become close friends as we are together during a stressful, but wonderful time in their lives. We are also extremely detail oriented, never leaving a stone un-turned. In addition, we offer event design which not all planning companies do. The design aspect of events is really exciting and we love that we are able to take our clients’ visions and turn them into reality.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The fact that I am friendly, kind, detail oriented and organized. I truly feel like this combination of qualities is what allows me to do my best on a day to day basis for my clients.
