Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly McGowan.
Kelly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After years of not listening to my inner voice, I finally obeyed that small whisper and moved forward with cosmetology school. After finishing at the top of my class, I started my journey into the salon world in Scottsdale, AZ. From there, we went to Denver, CO for four years then on to St Louis and now have finally settled in League City.
After what seemed like three years of packing and unpacking I looked back at all the experiences I had at all of the amazing salons I was hired at in all of these wonderful cities and capitalized on all of the incredible education I was given. Now, I’m two years into owning a thriving salon with one employee and look forward to the rest of the journey.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle along the way was leaving my existing clients who become close friends and creating a brand new clientele multiple times.
Kelly’s House of Colour – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
House of Colour has become a brand not only because I specialize in color corrections, blondes, and balayages but I educate for Joico the healthy hair care company, and I’m also an international educator for Bodyography Makeup. So not only do you receive the perfect hair color to compliment your complexion but an animal and cruelty-free makeup to finish the look.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Working in New York Fashion Week with some of my favorite people.
