Meet Kendra Jones of K. Jones in Southeast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Jones.

Kendra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all began when I started agonizing over the fact that I wasn’t doing something I loved. At the time, I had been working for an engineering company for six years as a cost analyst. Years of non-fulfillment and dissatisfaction had taken its toll on me. It was then that I realized I was compromising my health and happiness for a paycheck.

Instead of building someone else’s dream, I vowed to make a change and start living for myself. In 2013, I finally decided to step out on faith and prepared myself to quit my “day job.” This self-reflective journey has now blossomed into a desire to create and share my work with others.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a collection of rocks and agates. I have always loved turning these nostalgic treasures into something functional — a necklace or keychain, or even a simple paperweight. When I discovered that I could wrap gemstones in wire and create endless combinations of color and shapes, a new passion was born: jewelry making. Simply put, creating unique jewelry from earth’s treasures is what I do.

My appreciation of nature and observation of the chic designs in earth’s natural resources is reflected in the movements, colors, and textures of my pieces. As far as my creative process, I create pieces by sketching so I can work out my ideas on paper or I will design by hand and allow the stone to move me. Either way, my work represents my raw, free-flowing creativity. I don’t just create jewelry. I create original art.

I take pride in creating each piece of jewelry by hand and knowing that my customers are receiving a high-quality piece of art. I love to design jewelry with understated elegance. My mission is to handcraft beautiful designs that accentuate the uniqueness and beauty of every woman.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to “success” has definitely been a hilly road with a few potholes along the way. As an artist, I found myself focusing more on the art and the creative process than the business, which led to some struggles. I’m in love with being unlimitedly creative; I would create unique one of a kind pieces everyday if I could. However, being creative doesn’t pay the bills. If having a successful business is my main objective, I had to focus on the business and my brand. I started taking business classes and attending local small business seminars to help build a solid business structure. Every month is better than the last and I am so grateful that I have a business doing what I love.

Please tell us about K. Jones.
K. Jones is the perfect marriage between minimalism and boho chic. I specialize in creating original designs by fusing metals with natural stones.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over, I would have taken business classes earlier, started a contingency fund and kept the naysayers at bay.
