Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedy Washington.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kennedy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started photography by taking a photojournalism class in high school just for the fun of it. We began learning about cameras and I became hooked. I was in band at the time and decided to quit and sell my clarinet in exchange for a camera. After then, I had become obsessed with learning and exploring how my camera worked and taking pictures of everything. I looked for inspiration everywhere looking for what I was truly into. I knew that fashion and portraiture was what I loved. I got two of my friends together in 2017 and we went shopping for unique pieces and then it went up from there. People started asking for shoots as my skills got better with each one. And here we are today!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road however I’ve overcome many obstacles in the past years when it has come to my craft. I struggled with figuring out my purpose as a photographer. Now I’m learning that my work is not in vain and the images I capture do have purpose and that they do mean something to people. It is a gift to capture images for others that they will keep forever. So the road has become a lot smoother.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a portrait and fashion photographer in a business where people are doing the same thing, what sets me apart is my editing style and the way I approach my photoshoots by keeping my subjects wants in mind. My ability and growth is what makes me proud, to have the capability to capture moments for others.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the people, culture and opportunities, it’s a great place to be. Personally, I don’t dislike anything because it’s always growing and evolving.
