Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenya Clay.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I danced for the Motion of the Ocean dance line under the Ocean of Soul Band at Texas Southern University where I was also captain for two years. Before graduating from Texas Southern University, I started taking Heel classes for fun, I would post all my videos on Instagram. I got a lot of feedback and questions on when I would start teaching my own classes. After graduating, I moved back home to Dallas, TX and I decided to put together my own class. I had only planned on doing that one class, but I ended up having 80 ladies sign up. My first class was a major success, so I continued doing them and before I knew it, I had built my own brand. MoveWithMonet is what I named it because we’re constantly moving and Monet is my middle name. I have my own shirts and logo, which I’ve sold over 60. I’ve been teaching for over a year now, selling out my classes, and my brand is getting bigger by the day.
I also teach private birthday classes my ladies, and their bachelorette parties which are always fun. Famous singer Tank has commented on my choreography via Instagram, and Famous rapper Megan Thee Stallion has retweeted my choreography via twitter. A video of me doing my choreography at one of my classes also went viral hitting 1.9 million views, 16.5 thousand retweets, and 89.2 thousand likes. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon, I love what I do. The ladies always share how my class allows them to be sexy but also gives them that fitness aspect where they leave feeling like they just left the gym. I’ve also added Twerk classes and the ladies love it, the best part about my classes is that it’s a judgment-free zone. You may walk in not knowing anyone, but you walk out knowing plenty. My classes are only $10, I’m located in Duncanville, TX. Right now, I’m doing classes twice a month.
Has it been a smooth road?
On my first class, I had 80 ladies pre paid/registered and ready to dance and then I lost the studio due to issues beyond my control. I was so sad because I had finally gotten the chance to teach my own and it was about to be ripped away. Luckily a friend of mine owned a studio, and I was able to use hers.

MoveWithMonet is sexy heel dance classes and twerk. I teach twice a month, I am known for bringing fire but sexy choreography beginner-friendly. I am most proud of how far my brand has come within such a short time span. What sets me apart from others is that I charge less than most for the same time frame of other classes. I am a perfectionist so I will not move on until every lady is comfortable with the choreography.

What I like best about Houston is the nightlife, it’s beautiful.
What I like least about Houston is the traffic.
