Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Bianchi.
Kevin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been a huge movie and TV buff in high school. After my sophomore year, I realized I couldn’t make a living watching and quoting the stuff I watched, so I opted to do the next best thing… make videos. In my junior year, I joined the Young Filmmakers Society and enrolled in some video and post-production classes. During my last two years of High School, I found I had a knack for making videos, so I knew what my major was going to be in college. Fast forward seven years later and two college institutions later, I had two degrees (Associates Degree and Bachelors Degree) in Video and Post Production. I was ready to find work as a videographer/editor in the city of Houston. Probably my longest job and where I started my YouTube Channel KevinTheDirector was at Grant Cussans medical marketing company called Zeke Digital Marketing (though as times changed it later became ViCare Media and I believe it is now called Studio Solutions).
It was there I learned how to sharpen and focus my filming and editing techniques, which gives the videos I make a high quality and finished look in a fast turn around time. I learned this not only on the job but on my YouTube Channel as well. As I moved to different jobs (Mattress Firm, Houston Press & MD Anderson Cancer Center), I picked up more techniques which brought even higher quality to the videos not only for my YouTube channel but for the companies I work with as well as the clients (Cosplay Models, Real Estate Agents, etc.), which brings us to today where I am still working around the clock at my job and at home…living and breathing video 24/7. Currently, with COVID-19, it is hard to make new content but I still try to make new vids when I can by doing stay at home videos and special cosplay videos from past conventions.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a long road and like any journey, there will be some bumps along the way. Probably the hardest is finding work and keeping it. Another hard part of the journey is finding reliable colleague and people to work with who you can rely on. I will admit that can be a challenge too but once you find the team and colleagues that help make the work not only effective but successful too.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
What I do as KevinTheDirector is make videos not only for my YouTube channel but for clients who want high-quality videos. For my YouTube channel, I normally go to conventions (anime, comics, video games, etc.) and make a cosplay highlight video showcasing not only the cosplayers but the event as well. There are also video skits, unboxing videos, vlogs, fan film openings and fight videos. I also take clients (cosplayers, real estate agents, conventions, etc.) who hire me to make film and edit a 2-3 minute highlight video for their business/website. I think what I am most proud of is how far I have come from when I first started and I look forward to see what I will do in the near future. What sets me apart from the others is the year of knowledge, experience and passion I have for all of the videos I make not only for my YouTube Channel and clients but for my job to at MD Anderson.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very quiet and kept to myself most of the time. I really only opened up to close friends who knew me on a personal level. Back then normally I would go to school, go home, do my homework and watch TV/movies. It definitely was hard connecting with my classmates and peers back then. When I do hang out with my friends, though, we normally just went out on adventures and with their help, I learned to be more open and adventurous. Today I tend to lead a quiet life when I am at home but when I am with friends in my hometown of Houston, or I am traveling to conventions, I tend to have fun and enjoy myself. Some of the things I like to do whenever I hang out with my friends play video games, sing karaoke, vlog, cosplay and ,of course, just being myself.
