Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Quinney.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I hated my 9-5 gig! I felt my life was drifting away slowly. I decided to quit my corporate job at Fox Sports and opened up my own production company. This year marks year 3 being full-time freelance.
Please tell us about your art.
I’m a creator. I shoot, edit, direct and color. I feel my story is a testimonial for others who struggle finding happiness within their job. I give hope and show that everyone is capable of surviving without a “9-5”. I stand behind my morals and religion and when people ask me how am I able to do it, I tell them it’s not me. I’ve had my share of terrible jobs but one particular day my coworker shook me up. Every night I would tell him my dreams of shooting and producing creative content. He stopped me one night and asked “why are you still here?” I responded “this is my shift”. He told me “youngblood don’t waste your life away like I did, I’ve hated this job since the day I got hired and now I’m about to retire.” That def shook my world up!
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I think its def getting harder in my field. Granted we aren’t known for film and productions here in Houston but a ton of people grab a camera and call themselves a photographer or videographer. It’s more than just pressing record, but due to easy access to high quality cameras the industry slowly became saturated. The only thing you can do is an artist is keep working hard and let your quality speak for itself. The artists in Houston need to collaborate more! We seem to not want to tell our secrets and potentially lose clients so we stick to ourselves. Not going to get very far doing that.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My website www.imaginethatfilms.us is my official site. Simply sharing! Most people don’t know creatives get opportunities from social media. A simple share goes a long way.
