Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Cherryhomes.
Kim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was raised in Midland, Texas and always had a dream of living near the ocean. I came to Galveston via Houston with my three children in 2004. I was offered a job directing surf camps on the island since surfing was a passion of mine and my children. Soon after moving to the island, I realized that there was a need for a women’s boutique that complimented the laid back, island lifestyle of Galveston. Tangerine Boutique opened our doors in October of 2009 and we have never looked back!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was so fortunate in the fact that Tangerine Boutique was welcomed with open arms. Of course, there are always highs and lows of owning your own business, especially when you are on an island that depends on tourism. We have managed to turn Tangerine Boutique into a year-round shopping “destination” instead of just a “summer vacay,” destination.
Please tell us about Tangerine Boutique.
We like to think of Tangerine as being a shopping experience. We love designers that are environmentally minded and of course it is always a plus when they design and produce in the USA. I believe that I am most proud of my amazing staff and having the chance to make people smile and feel good about themselves. We love working with our clients to bring that extra spark to their wardrobe.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I really don’t think I would have changed a thing. I truly believe we land where we are supposed to. I have been so fortunate to meet so many amazing people thru owning the boutique. I have no regrets about opening and would do it again in a heartbeat!
