Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Padgett.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kim. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Houston, and graduate from Baylor University with a Master’s in International Journalism. My first job was as the editor of an international voice technology magazine, at the time when voice automation was first hitting the consumer market. I was recruited away from the publication to a fast-growing technology startup to be the editor of their technical journal. Once they sold the journal, I created a position in the company managing all internal and external communications.
The startup was very successful, and it allowed me to learn the other side of the business of communications. After my first child was born, I decided to spend my time as a full-time mom, while still dabbling in public relations and marketing for internet start-ups firm. Once my children were in school, I increased my consulting and eventually went back to work in corporate communications full time in the technology industry.
After a successful IPO for a firm that I had worked for and managing PR firms for the company, I decided it was time I started my own firm. I engaged my mentor about the process, as she had a successful firm based in Austin. She offered me a position with her company to open the Houston and Dallas offices for her, recruit clients, hire and manage staff out of the Houston office.
After two years of success, and learning the ropes, I incorporated The Padgett Group. That was 16 years ago, and one of the best and most rewarding decisions of my life. It provided the flexibility to spend more time with my family while working with a diverse group of clients.
Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been a great ride! There are always challenges when you are managing people, client expectations and forecasting for the future. I always strive for balance, and my goal has always to stay small and boutique. It allows me to have hands-on interaction with all clients and I love the work.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Padgett Group – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
As a native Houstonian, I might be biased, but I think we live in one of the greatest cities in the US. We are an international, diverse, and welcoming community. And, we have grown so much, in the arts, dining, culture, design, our city has been positioned nationwide as one of the best places to live.
What would I love to see change? I’d love to see our city become free of the stray animals, decrease crime, add more green space, and somehow find a way to prevent the devastating floods we’ve experienced in the past few years, and most recently with Hurricane Harvey.
