Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Perry.
Kim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always liked to capture moments. Friends and family expected that when we were together, my phone camera would be poppin capturing memories.
However, things got really serious in 2017 when I took my daughter and her BFF to Jamaica for a senior fun trip. After taking so many pics, My daughter’s best friend said: “you need to become a photographer”. I thought nothing of it. It then became time for my daughter’s senior pic and prom pics. I hired two amazing photographers to capture these moments. I did take a few pics behind them and realized how great a job I had did.
I decided to buy a starter camera from then and advertised on social media that I was starting a photography business. Needless to say, I had instant requests for shoots and within four months, had to upgrade to a more sophisticated camera. I opened my studio about four months later and here we are today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had and continue to struggle at times with flash photography and maximizing the use of all of my camera functionality. I also lack much of the photography lingo that most photographers converse about. But, credit myself on my artistic vision. Once I vision the outcome, everything else always falls into place.
Picturesque by KP Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Picturesque by KP Photography specializes is Senior & Holiday Portraits mostly. I also do athletic media days, maternity, small parties, and infant photography. Just recently, Ive dabbled into landscape photography due to my & my husband’s extensive travel. I am blessed to own a studio which allows me to do both in studio and on-location photography.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
In the beginning, I had to do much advertising to get my name out there. Today, I do only social media advertising. Customers whom I serviced in the beginning are repeat customers and those same customers continue to send me referrals. And, the referrals send me more referrals.
Photography is my hobby. The great part about it being my hobby and not my career is that I can keep it fun. That’s most important to me.
