Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiran Virani.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In high school, most of us don’t know what career path to choose. From freshman to junior year, I was constantly changing my mind on what I wanted to pursue. Senior year, my story began and my life changed. My mother was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer, and my family was handed a load of information that was foreign to us. I had no family member that was in the medical field who understood or could explain any of it. In the process of all my mom’s appointments and testing there was one person who stood out the most. My mother’s Nurse Practitioner took the time to explain, sooth, and support my family in a difficult time. That is when I decided, I wanted to do exactly that.
I took that plan and changed it into reality, and had my career path picked since I was 18 years of age. I obtained my Bachelors in the Science of Nursing and practiced as a registered nurse. I practiced as a medical-surgical nurse and moved my way into the emergency room at a level one trauma center at Ben Taub Hospital. I dealt with chronic and acute injuries of various sorts. After feeling comfortable in my role as a RN, I knew it was time to move towards my final goal.
Over ten years later, here I am doing exactly what I wanted. I currently work as a Family Nurse Practitioner in a spine and sports medicine clinic loving what I do. I help patients with corrective and functional medicine to help complete their rehabilitation process with any injuries that are orthopedic or spinal related. My goal now is to help increase the quality of life for my patients using conservative measures to increase mobility and range of motion. I work with a unique team that include a supervising D.O, Chiropractors and rehab therapists that aim to complete these goals without the use of opioids or invasive procedures.
Has it been a smooth road?
If my journey was smooth, then it wasn’t worth talking about. There were a ton of struggles along the way!
1. Most people don’t know what a Nurse Practitioner is or what they can do. I am still explaining my role in the community and in the practice daily. Knowledge is power and I believe that.
2. Personal struggles also occurred in this process of becoming a NP. I had to plan a wedding, buy a house, work two jobs in this entire process. However, all of the hard times were completely worth it. My husband and parents were very supportive in my career and I don’t think I could have done it without them.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Vanguard Spine & Sport – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Vanguard Spine and Sport is different than your average therapy clinic. We have an integrated model which allows our patients to be evaluated with a medical provider, rehab therapist, chiropractor and even a nutritionist. Once our patient is evaluated we sit as a team to complete an individualized plan for all of our patients. We find full-body muscle imbalances that interfere with their day to day function and help correct this over the course of their regimen. Our goal is to empower our patients to be their ideal selves. Most patients have accustomed their lifestyles to their aches and pains and we try to help them gain back their mobility to complete activities of enjoyment.
We specialize in spinal injuries/degeneration or joint/soft tissue disease processes. We have a variety of solutions to best help outpatients dependent on their needs.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Houston is a versatile city that has a variety of cultures. I love that all the culture that our city contains allows us to have great food. There is always a great place to eat with friends and enjoy the sun! Unfortunately, there is nothing scenic in our city which is our biggest downfall.
