Meet Kirby Williams of Kirby Pixie Productions in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirby Williams.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kirby. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey with my company started as a young kid. I remember being that kid with a crazy imagination making up things and putting it to life through toys or just a drawing paper. I remember being on the playground and pretending to be like I’m at the scene of a movie. I was that artsy kid who had the imaginations out of nowhere. I remember having a fascination with computers, cameras, and editing stuff. Like every time I see a camera, I always wanted to walk into it or even get a glimpse of behind the scenes. When my mom purchased me my very first camera at 14, it all started from there. The camera wasn’t even what I have now but it was a nice little $14 digital camera (yes, I know very funny) but you know what I made it work, I snapped everything with that camera and edited with it. Gradually, over the years, I did get better cameras but I worked with what I got till I was able to do more things. Moving forward fresh out of high school, I always said I wanted to start some sort of company or creative space. I didn’t know how I was going to do it but I know over the years, I said before I even want to be out in the scene, I wanted to make sure that I have all the essentials that I need before I even go live. So, during the time, I was a bartender and just taking photos and recording people on the low. I love working with people and I just meeting new people, in general, but being that camera lady, I didn’t want no one to know about me till I was ready. When I left my bartending job in 2010, I said I really want to start taking my craft more serious and Kirby Pixie Productions was in the baby stages of forming and well, let’s just say the pot is finally coming out the oven.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I faced plenty of obstacles along the way but I take those obstacles as a learning experience. I deal with egos a lot and it’s so funny because every time when I deal with specific egos, it just teaches me not to be that person. I run across so many people who ask me how do you get so many gigs. My answer is always this stay humble and put your people who support you the most first. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my peers. Those bad challenges I face made me become a strong person.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kirby Pixie Productions story. Tell us more about the business.
Now, this is the part where it gets fun, so Kirby Pixie Productions will soon be an affiliate with my other company forming called Kool Cats Crew. Kool Cats Crew is still in the pot but it’s going to be more than just photos and video. Kirby Pixie Productions will be a media/advertising/production company where we will do video, photos, editing, anything that involves making a vision come to life. What I’m more proud about my company is the fact that even tho it was in the small beginning stages a long time ago I’m happy the slow process I took is finally in completion. I think what sets mine from other business is that I work with people. Crazy part, I do food photography when I go to restaurants and they tell me their story its just sad there are places out there that really need help and I’m willing to do whatever I can to help others. I just want to see everyone make it.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The best luck I’m getting is the clients I do have all my stuff together but I just have to say the word of mouth is powerful. Long-time ago, I told my fellow peers who I shot I didn’t want to be seen yet because I felt I wasn’t ready or have enough material to show to business. They really believed in me when they were sharing photos and videos I shot it was like the domino effect one person ask who shot, they mention my name and it just all come to altogether. I totally thank all my clients for having faith that I can do this.
