Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Sowell and Laurie Harvey.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Kris – The Ladies of Libation has been an umbrella allowing Laurie and I to work together on projects over the years while we both had other responsibilities (brands, new restaurant/bar openings, etc.). After many years of “part-timing” it together as the Ladies of Libation, in 2019 we decided to take the leap of faith and go full time offering our beverage consulting and event expertise to the masses.
Has it been a smooth road?
The most difficult thing we have experienced is learning the business side of accounts-receivable and quarterly taxes. We know we are not alone in this small business struggle, but luckily we are thankful to have friends at our side who are willing to help us navigate the unknown.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Ladies of Libation story. Tell us more about the business.
Think back to the last time you had a practically perfect cocktail, a drink as beautiful as it was delicious. It’s likely that the innovative team behind Ladies of Libation had a hand in it. Full-service bar consultants, Laurie Sheddan Harvey and Kris Sowell, have been pleasing palates for over 40 years, delivering anything but ordinary food and beverage experiences at noted and awarded bars, restaurants, and hotels throughout the Houston metro area. Ladies of Libation specializes in solutions, developing concepts from the ground floor to executing the first drink poured; from managing national brand representation with their premier worldwide network to reviving struggling businesses and delivering opportunity and insight where it’s needed the most.
Ladies of Libation is the creative, playful force behind that extra special, experiential event. The staff and host parties with thousands of guests, and create curated liquid offerings for groups, business, and philanthropic entities of all sizes. The firm offers mentoring, leadership and training services. All the while, they relentlessly stand behind the fact that “it tastes better when it’s pretty”.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Laurie – We are most excited about launching our vintage mobile cocktail bar in 2020. We feel that the consumer has an elevated expectation for cocktails and events in the Houston Area and we are constantly evolving our business to beat their expectations and bring the “wow-factor” to their events.
