Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Purcell.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My journey into loving portrait photography started at a young age. My parents always had many portraits of my sister, and I proudly displayed throughout our home and one of our favorite past times was to look through photo albums. As a young adult, I loved photographing all of the things that I found beautiful, but it wasn’t until I had my first daughter that I attempted creating portraits. She was my first little muse, and my love for portraits of babies grew from there. I started my business when she was one still not knowing what I was doing really nor what my style would be. I learned, and I grew as my clients put their trust in me and today almost nine years later I am confident in my artistry and love creating fine art portraits for my clients during the most important times of their lives. My passion lies with helping a mother feel beautiful during her most vulnerable times; during pregnancy and the journey throughout motherhood. I also truly enjoy capturing a baby’s delicate little features just after they’re born and seeing their personalities grow through their first year. Never in a million years would I have thought I’d be where I am today, but I can’t imagine having a better job. I love what I do each and every day!
Please tell us about your art.
My primary focus is maternity, motherhood, and newborn fine art portraits. This is such an amazing and transformative time in every woman’s life, and it deserves to be documented in a beautiful way. The transformation into motherhood is not always a glamorous or pain-free journey, so I really love helping my clients feel amazing throughout their experience with me and giving them something really positive to remember this period of their life. I’m inspired by many forms of art from photography to painting and sculptures, but most of all I’m inspired by each and every one of my clients. I love to get to know them and their story, what’s really important to them, and what their style is so I can bring that to life in their portraits. I merge my classic, feminine, modern style with their personal style to create something truly unique and perfect for each of them.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I find success as an artist by feeling confident in the work I’m producing, but never being fully satisfied with it either. I think the key to being truly successful is to never stop learning and growing. This is one of the things I love most about what I do…it’s always evolving.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
