Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Purcell.
Kristen is a portrait photographer that specializes in Maternity, Newborn, Baby, and Child photography serving the Houston, TX area. She grew up in Pennsylvania and spent some time in the military where she met her loving and supportive husband of 15 years. They have two beautiful daughters ages 4 & 7 who always keep her inspired and supply an endless amount of hugs and kisses.
As a little girl one of my fondest memories is looking through the large stacks of photo albums my mom kept, and the many portraits that covered our walls. These images not only documented our existence and milestones but something much deeper. They served as a visual record of the love, pride, and hope our family shared. Now, as you can imagine being surrounded by all of these pictures, I naturally gravitated toward using a camera. Over the years, I snapped lots of images of pretty flowers and architecture I loved, but it wasn’t until my oldest daughter was born that I found my true calling in image making…portraits. I now had a NEED to document each and every little detail of this beautiful being my husband and I so lovingly nurtured. Not more than a year or so after her birth, my photography business was born. I’ve been nurturing and growing it since 2010.
I invite you to allow me to help document your beautiful family’s journey; from the first flutters in your growing tummy, to the tiniest of fingers and toes, big slobbery giggles, and a transition into childhood. Document it all…every single little detail. An investment in preserving your family’s legacy through portraits will be one that is never regretted, but cherished for many generations to come.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Anything in life worth doing is usually not easy. Running a small business takes a lot of time, hard work, and dedication. I would definitely say it has not been a smooth road, but worth every step of the way. There are so many things to consider when starting a business that I think most people would never dream of…I know I didn’t. You have to find your style, perfect your craft, wear all of the many hats in the business, and somehow find a balance to spend time with your family. I guess that’s the biggest consistent struggle is…work family balance.
La Vie Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My favorite sessions are Maternity and Newborn! I feel like I’m really in my element here, and I get to create these gorgeous works of art!! I love to use organic elements and dramatic lighting to create images that force you to stop, look, and feel. The thing that sets my work apart from others is I don’t just take a picture, and I rarely do the same thing twice. I create fine art pieces that are focused around my clients desires while at the same time feeding my artistic soul.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is not defined by money or status in my opinion. Clearly, we all need to make money, but true success is a feeling of happiness and fulfillment. I define my success by not only providing for my family, but being with my family. I define my success by a mamma who can’t hold back the tears when she sees her baby’s portraits. I define my success by how I feel fulfilled by my work yet still crave continuous growth.
