Meet Kristina Elle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Elle.

Kristina, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born and raised halfway around the world in Singapore by two amazing Filipino parents. Ever since I popped out of my mother’s womb, I knew that I loved anything creative. I loved to sing, dance, act, draw, play instruments, etc. and this culmination of artistic practices spurred me into pursuing a creative career as an adult. During my secondary school years (or end of middle school years if you convert it to the American school system), my dad got a job in America, Texas to be exact, and so my entire family relocated here, and it has put my love for the arts into overdrive. I started an Instagram page around 2012 to share my artistic ventures and fashion with the world, and it has blown into something bigger than I could have ever imagined. Instagram has been an amazing platform for me to find other creatives who love Japanese Street Fashion or Harajuku Fashion as some might call it. I have also managed to garner many opportunities such as starring in music videos, films, photo shoots, fashion shows, etc. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
The current love of my life is Japanese Street Fashion. I first discovered it when I was in elementary school through a magazine called Fruits that started in the late 90s that features individual styles in Tokyo’s Harajuku district. I wear and share with others through social media how I style my pieces together, and I also want to use social media as a way to encourage others to dress as wildly as they’d like to because life is so short! I also dress in a lot of bright colors because seeing other people happy because of my style, in turn, makes me happy as well.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I personally feel that because of the rise of social media, artists have sort of become pressured to become more of role models and ambassadors for the community. Because of the current political climate, I fear for a lot of my friends in the J-Fashion (the short form of Japanese Street Fashion) community because of a lot of hateful rhetoric against those who are different, which is why it is so important for us to support each other and continue encouraging each other.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I post every single week on my Instagram page, Youtube channel, and Facebook page. I have curated my page to be a positive space for everyone, so I hope you can check it out and enjoy it!
